What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"This is fun place to visit if you're out adventuring for the afternoon. Mentone is a cute little town! The food here was good, not over-the-top great, but the service was awesome and everyone was super friendly. Definitely a place to go at least once. Order the tea and waffle sandwich, don't recommend the BBQ grit cakes unless you really like spicey things. Also this place is pet friendly! You can eat on the screened-in porch with your dog! Big plus!!"
"We visited here after stopping in the gift shop on a whim. The sweet lady in the shop suggested we have dinner there and since we were fresh into town with no plans, we took her up on it. It was a super strange dining experience. We knew it was Alice in Wonderland themed, but it was a lot. And it wasn’t necessarily done well. Our table was not sturdy and our chairs were not comfortable. It is almost as if they cared more about keeping the theme than they did about the full customer experience. Food was mediocre. We had the jalapeño poppers for our app and they tasted ok, but looked so unappetizing. There wasn’t any description on the menu for them, so we were surprised when they came with barbecue sauce and on a bed of corn. For our entrees, I ordered the Chicken Marsala and my husband ordered the Tuscan Chicken. My dish was boring…it felt like it was missing something…salt or some sort of acid - it lacked flavor. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Tuscan Chicken though. He also ordered the bourbon tea and enjoyed it. Our waitress was knowledgeable and took great care of us. We did not have reservations, but they are recommended for dinner - as there are very limited tables. Overall, it was an experience to remember, but not one I’d probably entertain again. **Edited to add that this is my experience. That’s what reviews are for. Not everyone will share my opinion that this place is chintzy, and I’m okay with that. The owner seems to be incredibly offensive with every review less than 5 stars - which is a huge red flag. They need to take the bad reviews and grow from them or simply accept that they just aren't everyone’s cup of tea (pun intended)."
"We visited during our New Year family trip — a party of seven with no reservation — and they seated us in less than 10 minutes. We were given a lovely private room in the back with a view of the yard. Our server was absolutely beautiful, almost doll‑like, perfectly matching the restaurant’s whimsical theme. The food was delicious, and the décor and table settings were adorable — it truly felt like stepping into a little wonderland. The service was wonderful as well. Despite hearing stories that some places in the area might not be welcoming to Asian tourists, we felt completely comfortable. They treated us with genuine warmth, smiles, and that charming Southern hospitality. One thing to note: they automatically added a 25% gratuity. I wish they had mentioned it upfront, but honestly, the service was so good I would have tipped that much — or more — anyway. This place is a true gem, and absolutely a must‑stop if you’re in the area"
"The Hatter Cafe is one of the cutest and most whimsical dining experiences I’ve ever had. Very good food and tea as well! Make sure you pay attention to all the tiny details and nods to Alice in Wonderland because they’re everywhere."
"Went to Mentone for our 54th anniversary getaway. We made reservations at the Hatter for dinner... arrive a few minutes early and they said they had us all taken care of with our table waiting for us. Chloe was a precious as could be and made sure we were well taken care of through out our meal. Chef Roger did an outstanding job with our food after coming to our table to see just how we wanted everything. The best appetizer (spinach/artichoke dip) we have ever had!! We will make trips in the future just to be able to go there to eat.😊 And let me not forget to mention just how darling the place is... so neat...you might expect Alice or the Mad Hatter to step out at any moment...love love our visit🥰🥰"
