from Google"Alter Ego at the Canopy isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a vibe that snuck up on us and claimed the title of launch pad of the trip. We came in with zero expectations and left making it our default starting point every day. The space nails that sleek, Japanese-inspired calm—modern lines, soft light, and a bar that hums with quiet confidence. The staff? Sharp. Each bartender kept the drinks topped off while dropping insider intel on which Tempe bars actually deserve your time (and when). It’s like they hand you a local’s cheat code with your cocktail. The food held its own too. The Katsu chicken sandwich was a perfect mix of crunch, sauce, and comfort—bold enough to make you pause mid-conversation. Every plate that passed by looked curated, not just cooked. Alter Ego does what most spots in hotel lobbies forget—gives you an anchor. The kind of place where a late lunch casually morphs into your first drink of the night. If you’re staying in Tempe, start here. Chances are, you’ll end up here again."
"I had dinner. Appetizers were good. Drink not my favorite I got melon mule. I wouldn’t recommend it. Salmon was tasty. Ribeye was not great. He asked medium they give him well done. They re made it but still was more well done than medium. He just ate 1/2 of it. Desserts were good. We got coconut tres leches and I forgot the name of the another dessert. Bill was almost 240 with the tip just fyi"
"We live in the East Valley and wanted to get out, find a new spot on a patio for breakfast as family, now that the weather is absolutely beautiful. Alter Ego popped up as an option for our Saturday morning adventure. While it is in a hotel, it’s still very easily accessible as it’s right off the entrance of the hotel. You can park in nearby garages or valet or find metered street parking. I ordered the Tempe Breakfast Hash which was absolutely fire. Sooo good and had the perfect amount of spice. My fiancé got the salmon board which he gobbled up pretty quickly so I presume it was good. We shared a cinnamon roll which was a great balance of gooey and structured. We also got the chicken sausage, bacon and two eggs to share with our toddler. We sat outside on the patio and relaxed in the sun while listening to the amazing live music they had for about 2hrs as it was pretty early and the crowd hadn’t come yet. Our waiter was so attentive and kind, very helpful with getting our little guy situated in a booster seat and then in a high chair when he was over the seat lol. Overall great experience and we’ll definitely be back."
"Had breakfast at Alter Ego inside the Canopy Hotel and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Varsity Breakfast — fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hashbrowns, toast, sausage, and fresh orange juice. Everything was tasty and well-prepared, a solid way to start the day. The space is stylish and open, with a great vibe. In the mornings it feels relaxed, but at night this spot really comes alive — the bar is always full and the restaurant is packed. It’s clearly one of the go-to hangouts in Tempe. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just nearby, Alter Ego is a great choice for breakfast, drinks, or a lively evening out."
"I ordered two medium burgers for takeout. Unfortunately, both were severely overcooked, resulting in dry, crispy patties that were among the driest I have ever experienced. At $25 per burger, this was particularly disappointing, as the texture resembled that of a hockey puck. On a positive note, the bartenders provided excellent service. I was unable to finish my burger due to an overwhelming charred flavor, suggesting that the grill grates may require thorough cleaning."
