What People Are Saying
from Google"Tried Abuela’s during their soft opening and was really impressed. I had the chilaquiles, both red and green, and they were delicious. just the right amount of spice without being overwhelming. You can tell they’re using quality ingredients and putting care into every dish. The space itself is beautiful. There are multiple outdoor patios, all with a cozy, family-friendly feel and plenty of room to find your own spot. Lots of colorful Mexican art around, which gives the place a really warm and welcoming energy. The menu is still a little tough to read right now, but they do have a line that says to ask questions if you need help which is nice. I do hope they get the layout dialed in as they settle into the full opening. I didn’t try the coffee, but I did notice it looked like they were using a smaller commercial machine, so I’m curious to see how that turns out once they get into their rhythm. They mentioned they’re still fine-tuning the menu and plan to add more options soon, like burritos. Even so, what they’re offering now is already solid. Definitely feels like a spot that’s going to grow into one of Midtown’s go-to casual Mexican restaurants once everything’s fully up and running."
"Fabulous spot for brunch! Delicious offerings and a very warm feeling of family as soon as you step in. We tried the Rancheros, and Chilaquilles and both were great! The Aguas Frescas with Pina was a great compliment. They do have quite a few coffee options too. Fresh pan also available. We will be back!"
"My first time here. I absolutely love this place. As soon as we walked in the door, the friendly staff welcomed us & answered any and all questions we had. The atmosphere was super cozy. The decor is totally the vibe of the restaurant. I felt like we were at my grandparents' house. The Horchata Latte was amazing. My partner had the Nube de Horchata and he loved it. We ordered the Green Chilaquiles & the Chorizo & egg Mollette. Everything was flavorful & delectable. We will most definitely be back!"
"I finally got to check this place out. I ordered green chilaquiles ( tortillas chips, green salsa, cheese and sour cream) these were too spicy and I was unable to enjoy them 😔 The pan dulce was a bit hard. I had a pink colcha. The horchata latte was tasty, not too sweet with only a hint of horchata. The place is small and you have to stand in line to order your food, so it gets really packed in their with lots of people standing around waiting for their food. The servers bring you out your food, so I’m wondering why they don’t take orders at tables and this will eliminate all the people standing around inside, if they are waiting to be seated. There is outdoor seating, but is was a cold 🥶 December morning."
"Sacramento has no shortage of breakfast burritos and taco joints, but Abuela’s Midtown is the glow-up the morning scene desperately needed. Think Baja-side café vibes — unassuming from the street, but bigger and sunnier once you slip inside and discover the shared back patio that spills into Cantina Alley. Hands down the best horchata latte I have had in town, and I have had them all.☕️✨ My cheese and jalapeno tamal came with egg, beans, and salsa roja (I snagged an off-menu veggie swap). The tamal was perfection: pillowy, moist (sorry!), and hearty but still light. The salsa roja was a good balance of acid, allium, and heat. If you can only take it honky hot, this is maybe your upper limit.🌶️🔥 I would want more, but I was satisfied. The space is cozy, and the whole place gives neighborhood-chic, like a scene from a sunlit indie road trip, but with better coffee. How I break down my ⭐️ reviews: 1 - Not if it was the last thing on DoorDash. 🗑️ 2 - Meh. Maybe if I’m close, and high. 😬 3 - Mid. Not texting the group chat about it. 🤷♀️ 4 - Hella solid. Planning my next visit. 😋 5 - Shut up! Take my money. Om Nom Nom. 🔥"
