What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"TLDR everything is a bit too rich and there's minimal crunch compared to what I expected but I can see the vision/ attention to detail with respect to flavor. Ordered guava salt bread, squash egg yolk focaccia, thai tea Thai tea: Cardamom sweet cream is pleasantly flavorful and done really well, I like how quickly it melts into the tea. Personally would probably not order again because it's a bit sweet for my liking (usually I order 0% for boba). Guava salt bread: Only crunchy at the ends (nowhere else) and too much cream for my liking; the cream:bread ratio is more like a cream puff than what I expected, where expectations were set based on product name "salt bread" so I expected more emphasis on bread vs filling. The guava cream is nicely flavored, light and floral. If it was a bit more sour maybe there would be better balance and would not feel as rich? Focaccia: very soggy, both on bottom and top! I will say the flavor is great (generous with salted egg yolk, great umami, pairs well with the curry leaf and kabocha) and the inside is moist and chewy; indeed you can tell it's been fermented quite well and gluten structure is great but for a focaccia at this price I really expected/was craving the crunch that comes with it. Again the flavor is amazing but I kind of had to pretend I already chewed it a bit when I took a bite. I did come at 9:45 AM so maybe it'd be crunchier if I came earlier but I did eat it pretty much (5-10min?) right after ordering. I understand that maybe the curry topping is inherently wet but perhaps a solution is to assemble before serving or something, and if labor is a concern to mark up the price further?"
"I had the single best cup of coffee I've had in my life at Paper Son. A friend took me there and told the owner that I was a newbie. Alex ground a small amount of beans, had me smell them (amazing), then just did a filtered pour into a small carafe. I usually need cream & sugar. Not this time. The flavors were sublime. On top of it, the staff & patrons all seemed like old friends. A great experience!!"
"Absolutely delightful coffee, matcha, and baked goodies! This adorable little coffee shop always has a giant line, but I can absolutely see why — the coffee is rich and nutty, either on its own, in a classic espresso drink, or mixed with one of their delightful Asian-inspired syrups. They have some of the best matcha beverages in the city, and I am consistently impressed by their selection of classic and Asian-inspired pastries. Everything is available between opening and when they’re sold out, and they definitely run out of the exciting, house-made pastries — like their ube salt bread, kimchi furikake chorizo scones, or sesame toffee chocolate chip cookies — quite quickly, so you have to get there early if you want to indulge. I usually try to arrive within an hour or two of them opening if I want one of their delicious Asian-inspired pastries, but it’s absolutely worth the early morning trek. I especially love their salt bread, which is super buttery and pillowy, and it has a great balance of salty vs. sweet. I also love their more classic pastries that they got from another bakery for later arrivals. The millet muffin is my go-to — it’s not overly sweet, has a great grainy texture and crunch from the millet, and is a nice hearty breakfast. Even though the line looks long and intimidating, it moves quite quickly. The team is really efficient, so I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes to order or more than 5 minutes for my order to be made afterwards, even when the line is out the door."
"Such a unique offering of baked goods! It was hard to decide what to get, but ended up with an Ube filled Salt Bread and a Milo Double Choc Chip Cookie! There was a line when we arrived at 9am, but it moved quite quickly!"
"Love the drinks - thai tea cloud, matcha latte - and collaborations to offer baked goods. Convenient to visit anytime while working in downtown!"
"The drink was warm and balanced, with bitterness kept low and sweetness faint. The flavor leaned mild, making it easy to sip. The aroma was faint and faded..."
