What People Are Saying
from Google"We were in the Walnut Creek and were craving piroshkis. We knew about Babushka Market & Deli and so we went there and ordered 6 piroshkis. The lady named Lyubov behind the counter is one of the nicest person we have ever met. She was very helpful and explained how they have something like 16 or 17 different kinds/varieties of piroshkis. We ordered 3 beef and 3 beef with jalapeno and they warmed them up for us on the spot. These are baked piroshkis, not deep friend, so they were not oily like the other kind. They were filled with a huge portion of meat with perfect seasoning with a huge beef flavor. They are literally the perfect sandwich and for a very reasonable price. We were very impressed by the quality of them and even one is enough to fully satisfy your hunger. As we were sitting at the table inside eating them, gentleman at the table next to us starting talking to us about the piroshkis. It turned out he was the owner of the Market and his name was Leo and he started it 29 years ago and runs it with his family. He told us that they buy their meat fresh and grind it on site and use all fresh and good ingredients, which explains why the piroshkis are so fantastic. We talked with Leo for a long time about the olden days, living in other countries, and our common experiences and ancestries…it was a wonderful conversation which was a perfect complement to the best piroshkis in the Bay Area in our opinion. If you haven’t tried this place we urge you to stop buy and buy one, which I think for sure after you eat it, you’ll want to buy a few more to take home. 5 Stars to this place…the best!"
"Authentic Russian gem with incredible homestyle cooking! This place is a fantastic combination of grocery store and restaurant serving absolutely delicious, authentic Russian food. The kitchen operates Tuesday through Saturday, mornings until 4 PM, so plan accordingly if you want their hot dishes - Saturday is perfect for a leisurely lunch. We tried their borscht and it was phenomenal - rich, intense beet flavor that’s exactly how traditional borscht should taste. My husband prefers lighter versions, but I absolutely loved the bold, authentic preparation. The classic Napoleon cake was a sweet highlight - perfectly layered and delicate. But the real star was their piroshki! These are HUGE and absolutely delicious when served warm. We got both the chicken and mushroom and beef varieties, and both were perfectly seasoned with flaky, golden pastry. Beyond the hot food, they have a great selection of Russian groceries if you want to take authentic ingredients home. The combination of restaurant and market makes this a unique find. Highly recommend for anyone wanting genuine Russian cuisine. Just remember to come during kitchen hours (Tues-Sat, morning to 4 PM) for the full experience!"
"The food is truly remarkable, offering a delightful experience for the palate. The owner and staff consistently demonstrate exceptional kindness and warmth towards every guest. The pirozshkis and the soup are particularly noteworthy and delicious. These dishes represent a true culinary highlight. The overall experience is made even better by the friendly atmosphere."
"Great, interesting lunch options. A little pricey or am I just not used to this new economy? Great place to pick up unusual jams, candy, cookies and more for a creative gift basket."
"Absolutely kind people. You will be treated like family here. They always ask if you need something more if dining in. They are incredible people that actually try to get to know you if you come as often as we do. The Piroshki were phenomenal. Full of filling and absolutely delicious. Enjoyed it. Solyanka is divine. Do not skip this place. 10/10 first thing I look forward to in the morning"
