"The perfect place to stop for coffee and a snack or lunch and dessert before, during, or after your visit to the Phillips. My friend's Mediterranean Tuna Salad ($13.50) was a real bargain for such a large portion. I really enjoyed my Lump Crab Crepes ($18.50), with lots of crab and served with a side salad. The Hibiscus Iced Tea ($4) was very refreshing. Good food, generous portions. There's a 5.75 percent service charge on every order."

"It doesn't have as wide a selection as the flagship and maybe not as fresh, but you know I didn't have to go to Forest Hills or that cramped store. The service is great and the back patio is one of the more serene places you can find."

"Great Cafe inside the Phillips Collection. Plenty of bread, baked goods / desserts, and hot beverage options. I ordered a machiatto and chocolate hazelnut ganache which were both excellent! Service was fast even though the café was quite busy. The inside is nicely air conditioned and the outdoor patio is nice even on a (very) hot day—plenty of shade to escape from the sun."

"Adorable little cafe tucked in The Phillips Collection with ample indoor / outdoor seating, super friendly staff, and a great selection of drinks, sweets, and breakfast / brunch foods! I dropped by Bread Furst for a quick bite on a Tuesday afternoon and was immediately surprised by how bustling it was, especially since it was hidden in the gallery! Thankfully, the long line moved quite quickly, with the lovely baristas skillfully taking down and preparing orders. My friend and I started with a light lunch, splitting their avocado toast and veggie quiche. The avocado toast was solid -- it included a generous helping of fresh avocado with sliced cucumbers, radishes, cherry tomatoes, and sprouts on a thick slice of levain bread. The bread had a great crunchy crust and solid flavor (although be prepared for it to cut the top of your mouth)! The veggies were all super fresh and a great touch, although I wish the radishes were sliced instead of cut into strips -- that might have helped them stay on top of the toast a bit better. The quiche was also lovely. It was quite heavy and filling despite its small size, but that paired well with the light and refreshing side salad. The quiche was packed with goat cheese, and also had a healthy helping of spinach and mushroom, which helped to lighten it slightly. I ended up settling into Bread Furst for the rest of the afternoon to finish up some work / make some progress in a novel, so I later decided to try out their drink and sweets menu. For my caffeine fix, I ordered their matcha latte (unsweetened and with almond milk) -- it was decent, but not the world's best matcha and likely not ceremonial-grade. Their flourless chocolate cake, on the other hand, was phenomenal. The almond flour-based cake was incredibly rich and decadent, and the slice was enormous (almost as big as my face...and the flourless cake had the smallest slices out of all the cakes)! Beyond the food, Bread Furst was also a delightful spot to hang out for the afternoon. It was quite busy around lunchtime; my friend and I struggled to find a spot to sit and ended up settling for the high tops near the entrance. But around ~2 PM the cafe had cleared out a bit and was the perfect environment for reading or working. If you happen to visit on a nice day, the outdoor patio is also wonderful -- there's a ton of seating on both the patio and in the rest of the courtyard, and the Bread Furst staff is just as attentive to you outdoors as they are inside! All in all, I can't recommend Bread Furst enough -- it's an adorable space and shockingly spacious for Dupont Circle, and it has tasty, straightforward food with some of the friendliest staff you'll meet in DC."

"The Vradenburg Café at the Phillips Collection feels like a missed opportunity. It bears the Bread Furst name but none of its warmth or craft. For a program backed by a James Beard award, the offerings here are shockingly flat. La Vazza coffee is served with no care and tastes like an afterthought. The team is curt at best and gives the impression they would rather be anywhere else. There is no sense of hospitality or pride in what is being served. The Phillips Collection deserves a partner that reflects the quality of the art on its walls and this is not it."
