What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"I’ve maybe posted a single review over the past ten years but felt compelled to post one after my experience at Filter. The quality of the coffee beans, the quality of the brewing process, the quality of the staff/customer service at Filter… it’s all superb. I am not exaggerating when I write that it was maybe the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had, certainly in the United States (it was a Gesha bean pour-over expertly brewed by one of the very competent baristas—no corners cut—a great deal of attention paid to the details, like preheating the carafe with hot water). Beyond the coffee itself, the staff were friendly, charismatic, and helpful with recommendations; the type of people working at a place where you can easily see yourself being a regular. I’m moving back to DC next year, and can confidently say that this is a place I will visiting at least once a week—more if I can. Don’t get me wrong, coffee chains like Starbucks are great for a quick and convenient cup of hot or iced caffeine. But if and when you’d like to pay attention to the coffee you’re drinking, the people who are making it, and the overall aesthetic of coffee as something more than just a drink, I highly recommend stopping by Filter."
"I stopped off for Hot Cocoa ($6), then sat in the bright, lovely lobby in back to relax and enjoy my drink. There's also outdoor seating and tables for standing in front of the shop. Very nice staff."
"Better than a business district coffee place has any business being…! Same price range as the bigger chains, but much better coffee and preparation. I’ve always found the service very fun and friendly, too. I didn’t realize until a few visits in that there is also a seating area in the back. According to other reviews it has no wifi, but it looks like a nice place to read or meet someone. I’m grateful to have Filter near my office."
"A variety of quality pourovers and good espresso. Hours are somewhat limited but its still worth going out of your way to visit. The drink options are more traditional -- nuanced pourovers and strong espresso, but not so focused on milk and sugary Ingredients. They use beans primarily from Ceremony coffee roasters. I particularly like the available seating and bathrooms in building's lobby. Very open and nice furniture, and a good place to get some work done or cool off on a hot day."
"A fine tuned and focused coffee bar. I love to see they have Ceremony beans in hand, and a variety of options for pour overs. I got an espresso with an extra shot, which had all the smoothness and richness I love. Some seating options indoors, and some additional spots outside. Friendly staff and insightful recommendations."
"Just stopped by this shop for my fav (aside from matcha, chai latte). The chai latte is crafted in house (highly appreciate) and isn't the premade ish. The..."
