"Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is one of those places that instantly becomes a favorite. Their flavor selection is always exciting, creative, and consistently delicious. Every scoop feels generous, almost like getting a scoop and a half, which makes each visit feel like a small treat and a bonus all at once. One of my favorite things about this shop is their doggy ice cream. My dog absolutely loves it, to the point where he screams if we walk by without stopping. It has become part of our routine, and watching him light up when he gets his own cup makes the stop even better. They also serve an ice cream taco in the winter, and I cannot wait for it to come back. It is fun, a little quirky, and exactly the kind of seasonal special that keeps things interesting. The walk up window is another huge plus. It makes grabbing ice cream with my dog easy and enjoyable, especially on nice days when you just want something quick and tasty. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream delivers great flavors, generous scoops, and thoughtful touches that make it stand out. It is a place I look forward to every time."

"The ice cream is good but customer service is awful. And by customer service I mean they don’t allow you sample their ice cream. If they want to charge $6 a scoop I think you can be inconvenienced to give a sample. But what I found even more offensive was the note on the wall saying it is better for the environment and reduces waste to not give out samples. If this establishment is so concerned about the environment why are you serving your ice cream in plastic containers or why not use metal spoons to offer samples? As others have commented, not being able to pre taste takes away from the experience and I hope the owners will consider a change. UPDATE. I noticed a response to my original review so I wanted to clarify a few things. This establishment 100% serves their ice cream to customers in plastic cups with plastic spoons. I’m attaching a few pictures for reference. Plastic IS NOT compostable but paper and bamboo products are. In terms of tasting spoons, bamboo spoons would be a great option. They are more biodegradable and break down faster than wood-based paper products. Mount Dessert Island, PLEASE don’t hide behind poorly informed sustainability practices for your lack of customer service - It’s a bad look. And in terms of environmental stewardship and waste. We had to throw my daughter’s ice cream in the trash because she could not pre taste and ended up with something she did not like. This creates waste. Please think about a change. Thank you!"

"Stopping into Mount Desert Island Ice Cream was a total spur-of-the-moment decision, and honestly, it turned into one of the sweetest surprises of my trip. The flavors here are anything but ordinary-tamarind, hibiscus sorbet, and so many others that make you stop and go "wait, they made that into ice cream?!" I went with two scoops: Mexican Hot Cocoa and Cookies & Cream. The rich chocolate with just the right depth paired perfectly with that nostalgic cookie crunch-comforting, creative, and ridiculously good together. If you're visiting, do yourself a favor and wander in. What started as an unplanned stop ended up being a highlight I'd go back for in a heartbeat."

"This is an absolute must visit for D.C! I ordered the Sweet Cream, and it was delicious. The ice cream is thick and you can really tell they make it themselves. They also have a ton of interesting flavors, one of my friends got the Basil, and all of them seem to great. I got 1 1/2 scoops for 6 dollars, which is honestly not bad given the quality. Highly Highly recommend."

"Found this place from searching "best ice cream in DC" and was not disappointed! The staff were very friendly and we really enjoyed their enthusiasm about the homemade waffle cones (worth the up charge!). I got a "single" of the Callebut chocolate with the blueberry sour cream crumble as my extra half scoop. Talk about a delicious combo! The blueberry flavor was refreshing and the chocolate was rich without tasting powdery like some chocolate ice cream. What really stood out to me was the sour cream crumble, that mixed with the chocolate? Superb! The price is high but the quality matches. As others have stated they don't offer samples but the staff does an excellent job describing the flavors. Free street parking is available nearby. Next time I'm visiting DC this will be a must stop!"
