from Google & Yelp"Was my 1st time visiting. It’s a really nice, cute, cozy spot. Definitely worth checking out. Received excellent customer service The drinks were amazing, there is so much to choose from on both the liquor & food menu. Will definitely be re visiting."
"While I am all about supporting Black-owned businesses, this establishment should be ashamed of its service, its food, and the atmosphere. First, the food. They are simply cashing in on the Nigerian food hype. They have suya on the menu, and I am not sure if anyone on the staff has ever tasted suya before. Zero spice. Zero suya seasoning. It is just regrilled meat that comes out dry. And the jollof was even worse. It is just mildly seasoned orange rice. No flavor. No jollof base (tomato, pepper, onion blend). Not a single country in Africa has jollof rice that tastes like this. The drinks were too sweet. The Old Fashioned had too much sugar, and the other drinks that were ordered were also very sweet. They are too cheap on the alcohol and rely heavily on syrup for their drinks. The service is terrible, and there is zero incentive for them to change because they charge a 20% upfront service fee regardless of the size of your party. After sitting for almost 20 minutes, we had to speak to the host outside just to get someone to come to our table. Lastly, the place has no vibe. Maybe the downstairs speakeasy or the upstairs rooftop has more to offer, but the restaurant itself lacks atmosphere or energy. They are too focused on too many avenues and failed to execute any of them well. Would not recommend."
"I have been in DC for work since Wednesday night (staying near the convention center) and this is my favorite spot so far! I was a solo diner and they still let me have a table (I am short and don't.love my legs dangling at the bar) and were INCREDIBLY attentive. I felt so welcomed and all the staff worked together seamlessly to deliver unique (to my PNW palate) and exquisite drinks and food I texted my friends during dinner to let them know that when they come home to the east coast for events, they should stop in DC for this experience. If you are debating what to order, start with the Grandmas Suya and the Jaba, then you MUST get the get the sweet potato croquette. Imagine the best ever spritz you have had + a 2 star spicy, incredibly, mouthwatering tender kabob, and then add in a sweet potato funnel cake + decadent vanilla ice cream with cherry and you have the exquisite drinks meal I had the privilege to enjoy The atmosphere was also on point. I am a millennial and was in a vibe, but I also saw many Gen Z and Gen X loving it. Whomever does the playlist should get a bonus. Ambiance is a 15/10. Just the right amount of mood lighting and such amazing decor in the shelving. I wished I had also been able to experience to speakeasy. I cannot shout out enough the hostess. As a solo diner sometimes the judgement can feel immediate when I pop in to have a delicious dinner, but she and the bouncer were so welcoming, but confident with clear expectations for good behavior on a welcoming way. I would try any spot they were at in a.heartbeat! She was also incredibly sweet on the way out. Don't let anyone convince you to swap out for someplace near the convention center or DuPont circle - check this place out and enjoy!!!"
""SOST is where the Black and African Diaspora thrive—a cultural bridge built on music, flavor, and community," says their website. Part cafe, restaurant, speakeasy, and gallery, it's true. On a block in D.C. called "Little Ethiopia," SOST is a gathering place. In the mornings and afternoons, SOST is a cafe serving coffee. Popping in around 1pm, I ordered the Honey Latte. It's made with oat milk, honey, and cinnamon. It was refreshing and tasty! The space itself is designed beautifully with books on its shelves and art on the walls. As you wait for your coffee, browse both or chat with the kind staff."
"Highly anticipated going to Sost for the first time. Sost encompasses stunning/elevated decor consistently throughout its 3 levels--the vinyl room (speakeasy bar), hybrid cafe and resto-lounge. I met up with a friend for dinner. We enjoyed the Sambusas together which were spiced to perfection. I then went on to have the Grandma's Suya Platter for my main. The portions of jollof rice and beef suya skewers were plentiful. We topped off our dinner with the Sweet Potato Croquette which reminded me of a funnel cake. I wish it would have been a little softer, but it was still really good, especially with the fresh vanilla ice cream. Our server, Nicole, was pleasant and super attentive! She checked in on us frequently. After dinner, we made our way all the way downstairs to the vinyl room for another cocktail. I loved the vibes at Sost. I easily see this being a go to spot as the weather starts to get nicer. Looking forward to coming back for one of the upcoming DJ sets."
