"I’m in love and obsessed with this amazing institution. Literally the BEST coffee I’ve ever had in Atlanta and maybe ever in my life. These drinks ooze culture, pride and excellence. I ordered a hot sweet plantain Nazareth. It was DELICIOUS. Well worth every penny. I’d order this a million times again. The coffee artist/owner is so kind and meticulous about his craft. This is far more than a coffee shop, it’s an experience. As I placed my order, Popcaan was playing by a lovely female DJ. From the decor to the menu and service, this entire establishment is a vibe you want to catch whenever you’re on Auburn Ave or in Atlanta. The only downside is that street parking is limited in the surrounding area but it’s worth the hunt to visit Coffee Was Black. Because of them, coffee is STILL black and forever will be."

"Stopped by to support this Black-owned coffee brand bringing Caribbean coffee and tea culture to Atlanta. Their menu is inspired by Jamaican and Haitian heritage, which I love since my family is Jamaican. We tried the City of God (mango fresca + espresso) and the Wah Gwan (hibiscus, lavender, allspice + oat milk). Both were unique and well-balanced — the flavors felt intentional and rooted in culture, not just trendy. They recently finished their residency at Grant Park Market and have now moved to their new residency on Auburn Ave at Haugabrooks. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something different from the usual coffee shop experience and want to support a brand with real cultural influence behind it."

"I’ve been to an art gallery with a cafe, but a cafe with an art gallery - that’s new. They even had a sort of drink concierge by the entrance who’ll explain the menu and take your order. I tried a Wah Gwan with espresso and my wife had a Yardie. WHAT IS THIS NECTAR!? We’ve had spiced drinks before, but this was the smoothest and most balanced I’ve tried. It’s like nothing you’ll find in any coffee shop I’ve seen. The Yardie is a new classic - coffee and ginger beer, bffs. Who would have known? The art gallery not only gave us something to do while our drinks were made, but it’s actually really good art. Parking is in short supply, and the shop is a bit of an oasis on the block, but I can’t imagine visiting Atlanta again without visiting Coffee Was Black. As far as I’m concerned, coffee IS black and should always be so."

"I had a great experience checking out this new coffee shop! The owner was so nice and personable, he made sure we were all satisfied with our drinks. I got the rosemary sage latte and it hit perfectly. The shop was inside an art gallery, it was near to look around."
