"We were traveling and this was close to the hotel. So, proximity was a factor. Service was REALLY slow. Waiting to be seated, waiting to order, waiting for product, all of it took a while. Maybe longer. My salad was ok. Not great. But. Pretty good. Leslie had a club sandwich that she couldn’t eat. She asked for no mayo, but it had a lot of something similar. Usually a club is on toast. This was grilled and soggy. Our server was polite and worked hard at figuring out whether or not they had the beverage I wanted. All in all, if I pass again through Dubuque, I’ll eat elsewhere."

"My wife and I decided to stop here to grab some food. I walked in and was waiting to be seated or at least greeted but it took a few minutes before someone acknowledged I was standing there. The place was not busy at all. The waitress was friendly and made some good food recommendations. Food was good overall. I just feel that they were penny pinching, basically charging you for every little thing, like different sauce or extras."

"A nice American grill complete with various beers from Iowa. The burgers were good. A bit of flavor and juiciness with a tad of charing. Kids burgers were very large and filling. The french fries were perfectly fried and salted. The best item we had are the wings. Super flavorful barbeque sauce and large portions. The beer selection is quite large and offer many from Iowa. The offer a flight to try out if unsure about ordering larger sizes like a pint. I only noticed indoor seating. Music and t.v.'s play in the background. Good location for hangout with friends. The restrooms during our visit my have needed a bit of attention. Our server was kind and welcoming."

"We stumbled upon Barrel House after a long day of hiking—it was right across from the Julian, and exactly what we needed: something simple, satisfying, and relaxed. It totally hit the spot! We grabbed seats at the bar, enjoyed a few well-made cocktails, and shared a plate of nachos that really hit the mark. The service was great and the vibe was laid-back. If you’re not looking for anything fancy and just want solid bar food done right, this is the place to go."
