"I have eaten at L. May's several times with my husband and had wonderful experiences. Tonight I brought my 34 year old daughter for her birthday and it was a severe let down. We got dumped into a corner table that was freezing cold. Our waitress was pleasant as can be. We ordered the brussel sprouts and some kind of a steak appetizer. Both were very disappointing. The steak was barely chewable. It was served with toast and a tomato slice. Not sure if they were meant to be eaten on the toast or what. The meat was just too hard to chew even by itself. Nevermind on a piece of toast. It was awful. The brussel sprouts were different, but similarly disappointing. No flavor what so ever and the texture of raw zucchini with the skin on chopped up. Not sure what it all was chopped up in a bowl. We both ordered the 10" pizzas. I ordered the figgy piggy which sounded good on paper, but didn't have much flavor at all. My daughter had a pizza with apple and I don't know what else and only ate one piece. I am not sure why. She just wasn't crazy about it. The heat came on as we were about 80% done. I don't enjoy wearing a winter coat to eat dinner. The ambiance at our particular table was 0. The food was less than mediocre. The waitress was pleasant, professional, and very pretty. Left a 20% tip as she did her job. The rest was a bust. We came up from Cedar Rapids to dine. Probably won't do that again. Our loss. Pictured are the brussel sprouts."

"A chic and warm bistro serving gourmet comfort food downtown. I tried the meatloaf and crab cakes — both were bursting with flavor and freshness. The house salad and focaccia were excellent too. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is cozy yet refined. Definitely a spot I’ll return to."

"This local restaurant is a treasure in Dubuque! A favorite amongst locals and a wonderful find for those visiting from out of town. The staff will treat you like family with such kindness and attention to detail that is rarely found. You cannot make a bad choice on the menu as everything is delicious and the ambience makes you feel like family. As a small business owner myself, I can appreciate all the effort put forth that you may not notice during your visit, but let me tell you that effort is there and I notice thank you so much For tonight‘s amazing dinner and for your graciousness. I wish you many years of success."
