What People Are Saying

"We chose this spot because of its central location in a very tourist-heavy area and the solid reviews. Despite the crowds nearby, there wasn’t a long wait, which was a pleasant surprise. Seating is a bit tight, so it’s best suited for groups of three to four. There is counter seating as well, though depending on the time of day, there may be a wait. We happened to get lucky and were seated right away. The bathroom setup is less ideal—located down a dim corridor past dishwashing stations and storage, and the restroom itself is very small. Given the layout, it would be difficult for anyone in a wheelchair to access it comfortably. As for the food, the shrimp po’boy was fantastic, though it was surprising that they didn’t offer cocktail or tartar sauce. The remoulade worked well enough. They do offer a kids’ menu, and the crawfish étouffée was delicious with a buttery flavor and perfectly soft rice. The breakfast sandwich was good but served on a hoagie bun with a bit too much bread, making it heavy and harder to finish. The staff was friendly and attentive. Even when our main server wasn’t available, another stepped in right away to help. Prices are very reasonable, and while the restaurant is on the louder side, it makes up for it with great views—right across from Café Du Monde and within steps of local artists’ booths offering artwork and caricatures. That added a fun touch to the visit. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would definitely return."

"I got the eggs Benedict and chose cheese grits for the side. The cheese grits were a bit chalky even though I was told it was cheddar. The English muffin was thin and delicious. The ham was tasty. The hollandaise sauce missed the mark. I asked for some lemon and sort of doctored it up. We also go the burger. It was average. It appeared to be hand made in house because the patty was oval shape, the fries that come with it were very good."

"Our meal at Monty’s was INCREDIBLE. I cannot recommend the crawfish etouffe or the shrimp po boy enough. But the highlight of our visit? Our server Tuti! She was the sweetest, most personable yet also professional. She was a ray of sunshine in our visit and we can’t wait to come back again. Monty’s and Tuti were five Star, top tier!"

"I had a fantastic experience at Monty’s on the Square! I tried the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict on the recommendation of the staff, and it did not disappoint — perfectly crispy chicken with rich, flavorful gravy. Our server was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick without ever feeling rushed. The coffee was solid, which made the meal even better. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the French Quarter, making it easy to explore the area before or after your meal. I would definitely come back next time I’m in New Orleans — highly recommend!"

"Absolutely loved Monty’s on the Square! I ordered the shrimp and grits, beignets, and the king cake and everything was incredible! The shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned, creamy, and full of Cajun flavor, while the beignets were light, fluffy, and filled with cinnamon sugar, covered in the perfect amount of powdered sugar (just like you’d hope for in New Orleans!). The king cake was a sweet treat that topped off the meal beautifully. The service was amazing, attentive, friendly, and made me feel so welcomed from start to finish. You can tell the staff really take pride in making sure every guest has a great experience. If you’re looking for yummy food, great service, and true southern charm, Monty’s on the Square is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back!"
