from Google & Yelp"I’ll give this place 4.5 stars. It’s super cute inside! And I like that they have food options as well! The employees were very kind. I tried the bacon egg and cheese burrito and it was pretty good. At first I was surprised by the taste of the espresso in my cappuccino (it was significantly darker than the last two coffee shops I went to in Nola) but the flavor really grew on me and I definitely enjoyed it. The milk was slightly more foamy than I would prefer but still tasty. This is a good spot to check out!"
"I stopped by for a matcha latte. It’s now my fav place to pick one up on ice with coconut milk. Yum! Since I was here and hungry I ordered the Smothered Sunrise Breakfast Burrito for the Vegan Chef Challenge. I don’t often order food with fake meat. I prefer veggies instead so it wasn’t my favorite. The sausage was flavored with fennel-again too much of a regular meat reminder lol. Tasty but not my style. Most of the rest of the burrito was good, the crema was a little too tangy for me though. It was HUGE. I’ll get three meals out of this. I sat on the back patio which was a sweet place to enjoy breakfast."
"Great little coffee shop. A laid back, hip, and quality spot with some food options. All we wanted was a small bite before we left NOLA to head back home. A quality cup of coffee and two really good sandwiches left us content. Small sidebar here, a pleasant find only two store fronts down is Peaches Records, a great record store. You could make a nice day out of visiting these two places alone."
"Undergrowth sponsored our big queer mass wedding with the perfect little popup coffee station — our guests were beyond delighted with the delicious coffee, and the Undergrowth team is an absolute dream to work with. Thanks so much, y'all!"
"Honestly, I wasn't a huge fan of the cashew milk they use for their drinks. But the coffee itself is great. More details below if you're interested. For the past 8 years, I have been brewing specialty coffee at home, sourcing my coffee beans from various roasters across New Orleans. I use an Encore grinder and an Aeropress, and I follow James Hoffman's "mock espresso" recipe (18g coffee to 90g water). While I don't claim to be a coffee expert, I'm definitely able to tell you what's good and what's bad. First of all, despite its reputation as a "food city", New Orleans isn't exactly known for its specialty coffee. I've been to other cities, like Houston and Chicago, that have a much larger coffee scene. I don't think New Orleans coffee is bad, but when a new roaster opens up, it's a big deal for coffee fans. Undergrowth is a shop that opened back in 2021 and somehow managed to fly under my radar until recently. They're located in the old storefront of Hey Cafe, one of the more well-known roasters that relocated around 2020 (iykyk). Hey Cafe was one of the first places I started going to after moving to New Orleans, so walking into Undergrowth definitely made me feel nostalgic. Right now, it seems Hey Cafe and Mojo are the two largest specialty roasters in the city. They each have multiple locations, and their coffee can be found at various cafes across New Orleans. In contrast, Undergrowth is clearly a much smaller operation. But that doesn't mean their coffee isn't as good. In fact, I was quite surprised by the quality of their espresso blend (I assume it's a blend, as I don't see any origin listed on the bag). It advertises "deep notes of grape and cacao with muted acidity," and I found this description to be incredibly accurate. The flavor profile came through very clearly. Don't be fooled by the humble appearance of this place. I think their coffee rivals all the other roasters in the city. If you're a coffee fan, you'll want to check them out!"
"This particular Sunday afternoon, I was looking for some kind of coffee, a snack, and an outdoor area to read for a while. A quick google search led me to..."
