What People Are Saying
from Google"I stopped in solo with no reservation and was seated at the bar in what felt like the basement level of the restaurant. Perfectly fine setup, but I would’ve much preferred some natural light; especially for a breakfast spot that leans so hard into its vibe. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito, packed with scrambled eggs, jalapeño-jack, tater tots, black beans, fire-roasted poblano corn, pico de gallo, chipotle sauce, and crumbled chorizo. Credit where it’s due: the food was excellent. Well-seasoned, hearty, and exactly the kind of indulgent breakfast you hope for when you order something this loaded. Service was just okay. I was forgotten about for a bit, though the free coffee was a nice recovery. Overall, the meal carried the experience more than the atmosphere or service. It’s good food, no doubt, but given the hype surrounding this place, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. I’d return for the burrito, but next time I’d aim for a seat upstairs with some daylight."
"By far best choice for breakfast! Chloe was our server and couldn’t have been more charming! The food was outstanding, a creative, and the eclectic atmosphere was so welcoming and fun. We will definitely be back!"
"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Friendly Toast is a must-visit tradition for us every year before a big corporate event, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently amazing, with creative dishes that actually live up to the hype. The atmosphere is fun, energetic, and the perfect way to kick off a busy day. It’s become a staple for a reason—reliable, memorable, and always a great experience."
"I absolutely loved my last visit to The Friendly Toast in Durham, so when my significant other told me he was taking me to another location, I was genuinely excited. I love The Friendly Toast for its food, ambiance, and typically warm staff, which made this experience especially disappointing. When we arrived at this location, I came in a few moments before my significant other while he parked the car. From the moment I walked in, the hostess was not cordial at all and made me feel uncomfortable, almost as if I did not belong. Once my significant other arrived, another staff member had to direct the hostess to seat us. At that point, Kari-Ann (I may be misspelling her name) immediately said we should be placed in her section. Unfortunately, the hostess then took the menus and literally threw them onto the table. I was taken aback. I turned to my significant other, and he calmly guided me to my seat. Kari-Ann, however, was an absolute bright spot. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and truly the definition of excellent customer service. If it were not for her, we would have left. She single-handedly saved the experience. Sadly, every other staff interaction made us feel like a hindrance. In all my years, I have never been to an establishment that made me feel so unwelcome. While the food was, as always, great, the overall treatment left a lasting impression. Because of this experience, I will not return to this Friendly Toast location. Durham, however, will always have my business. Please note if I can rate the service solely on Kari-Ann it would be 5 stars but unfortunately it's not the case. She deserves 5 🌟 and recognition for being a stellar employee."
"I went in September, but I'm just now getting around to write this review! First off, shout out to Vanel, my server! He was friendly, attentive, and just overall a positive vibe to have for brunch! I sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful sun on a semi-chilly day. Food ordered: mimosa flight, blueberry pancake, breakfast eggrolls, an 'appley every after mimosa, and one other drink but I don't recall. ALL were delicious and I recommend each of them. A great brunch place I'd love to return to!"
