What People Are Saying
from Google"Dining at The Catalyst felt like one of those travel moments you don’t plan for—but end up remembering long after the trip is over. Stepping in from the cold outside, the warm, inviting ambiance instantly wrapped around us. Soft lighting, cozy interiors, and a calm buzz made it the perfect refuge on a chilly day—exactly the kind of place where time slows down and you settle in comfortably. ❄️✨ I ordered the gochujang tofu, without many expectations. I assumed it would be a decent, well-executed vegetarian dish—good, but familiar. What arrived instead completely blew my mind. The plate was visually stunning, as seen in the photo: vibrant vegetables resting on a bed of rice, glossy with sauce, topped with thinly sliced, fried lotus root chips that were golden, airy, and perfectly crisp. I had never had lotus root prepared this way before, and it turned out to be the quiet star of the dish. Every bite was layered and thoughtful—the gentle heat of the gochujang, the crunch of the lotus root, the freshness of the greens, and the comforting base of rice all working in harmony. It was bold yet balanced, comforting yet exciting. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, adding to the overall warmth of the experience without ever feeling intrusive. All in all, this was one of those meals that surprises you in the best way—simple expectations, extraordinary execution. A truly memorable stop on the journey, and a place I’d happily return to. 🍽️🌿"
"Yesterday I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Catalyst Restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff made us feel truly cared for. And the food… absolutely incredible. Every dish was beautifully crafted and packed with flavor. You can feel the passion behind each plate, from the presentation to the last bite. It was one of those meals you don’t forget. If you’re looking for an elegant, welcoming restaurant with outstanding food and service, Catalyst is a must."
"Had lunch at Catalyst in Cambridge and really liked the relaxed, modern atmosphere. The food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared, with balanced flavors and good presentation. Service was kind but could be a bit slow once the place fills up, though it still felt comfortable overall. A nice spot for lunch in Kendall Square without being too formal."
"Catalyst has been part of my family for nearly 15 years, and for good reason. I had the privilege of helping open the restaurant with Chef-Owner William Kovel, and ever since, it has remained my favorite place to dine and share with friends. This is fine-dining caliber cuisine in a warm, casual, and upscale American setting. The wine dinners are always extraordinary. Last night’s canapés set the tone: the bluefish pâté with caviar was exceptional, but the fig and blue cheese nests stole the show—playful, elegant, and packed with flavor. The entrées showcased Catalyst’s hallmark balance of creativity and restraint. The black bass was beautifully prepared: light, refreshing, and perfectly complemented by a piperade that was flavorful yet never overbearing. The pork loin, crusted with fennel, cumin, and black pepper, was a masterclass in execution, with a jus so good it deserves its own spotlight. Dessert was a classic French apple tart with vanilla ice cream—simple, seasonal, and executed flawlessly. Each course was paired with wines that elevated the experience, with Bobby Zahn’s presentation tying it all together. Catalyst is more than just a restaurant—it’s a gathering place for community, friendship, and unforgettable meals. Every dinner here reaffirms why we continue to support and celebrate this Cambridge treasure"
"I had the pleasure of attending an epicurean wine dinner at Catalyst restaurant in Cambridge on Friday, November 7th. The theme was the wine and food of Piedmont, and they succeeded to the highest level. From the first course, a salad with a Piedmontese cheese, paired with a fabulous Arneis, followed by a single vineyard Barbara paired with the magical white truffle pasta dish(simple and brilliant) to classic beef courses served alongside examples of the great Nebbiolo grape varietal. Everything was executed at the highest level. The room was beautifully arranged and the service by our two staff members, Carlos and Christian, was impeccable. An evening I will remember for a long time."
