What People Are Saying

"Warren Tavern is one of those places where you feel history the second you walk in and also realize personal space was not a priority in the 1700s. Opened in 1780 it is one of the oldest taverns in Massachusetts and was frequented by names like Paul Revere and other Revolutionary era locals who probably also complained about seating. The history is easily the most interesting part. Low ceilings creaky floors and walls that have clearly heard more stories than anyone inside today. It feels authentic in a way that cannot be recreated and you get the sense that a lot of serious conversations and questionable decisions happened here over the centuries. The staff were friendly and welcoming which helps balance out how tight the space is. Drinks come out quickly and the overall vibe is cozy in a very old school way. That said this is not a great spot for groups. Tables are small space is limited and anything more than a few people starts to feel crowded fast. Warren Tavern is best enjoyed with one or two people who appreciate history a good drink and close quarters. Come for the story stay for the atmosphere and maybe imagine what it was like when the biggest problem here was planning a revolution instead of finding elbow room."

"Don't miss an opportunity to dine at this historic tavern. Apparently, it is the oldest one in Boston. The menu options are your regular American food, everything is prepared very nicely and tastes great. Excellent service by the staff that work there. It can get busy during peak hours, so plan accordingly. I highly recommend this place."

"A great spot to grab amazing clam Chowder from. Whenever I drive up to Boston, I always make it a point to stop by Warren Tavern to grab some good food. Warren Tavern is a great eats spot with a lot of history, the founding fathers probably all hung out here to drink! I really enjoy the clam Chowder, A bowl is perfect for two. I also like the fish and chips, fish is very fresh tasting flakes apart beautifully! The Shepard pie is also another really good dish, the server let us sub in a fries instead of the salad. Great service! Only thing is that the bar gets really crowded! Have to wade through a bunch of people to get seated and to leave."

"On our second day in Boston, after roaming around, I wanted to find a nice spot for my cousin’s birthday dinner. I did some research and we decided to try the Warren Tavern since it had great reviews, one of the historical tavern in the US, was open late, and offered both indoor and outdoor seating. The only downside was the parking, it was really tough. As tourists, it wasn’t easy to find a spot. The restaurant staff suggested parking in the residential area, but we were worried about getting in trouble. At one point, someone even asked if we were residents, and of course we weren’t, so we had to keep looking. Eventually, we ended up parking at a nearby 7-Eleven, grabbing a few items so we could leave the car there, which honestly saved the night! Once we got inside, it was all about the food, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the lump crab cakes, New England clam chowder, fish tacos, and lobster mac and cheese. Since it was chilly both outside and inside (and pretty loud, too!), we stuck with warm water to drink. The service was excellent, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The only dish that didn’t wow me was the fish tacos, but that’s just because I’m used to San Diego style tacos, which are very different. These felt more European/English in style. Still good, but the other dishes stood out more for me. Overall, we had such a great experience. The food, the service, and the cozy vibe made it worth it, and I’m extra grateful there was a 7-Eleven nearby so we could park and enjoy a wonderful birthday dinner."

"A solid tavern with historical significance. I stopped in after visiting Bunker Hill. Built in 1870, this is a must stop location for anyone who appreciates history or a good drink. I ordered a snack of chicken dumplings (pot stickers). They were delicious and had the perfect crunch. There are many beers and other drinks on tap."
