"We stopped into The Horse You Came In On Saloon twice during our Baltimore trip and it ended up being one of our favorite spots. First off, the history alone makes it worth a visit. This place is often credited as the oldest continuously operating bar in Baltimore, and you can feel that history the moment you walk in. That said, don't let the name or exterior fool you this is not a country bar. The first night we were there they were playing early 2000s emo, which was unexpected and amazing. The crushes are clearly the star here. I had a blackberry crush ($14) and I also tried the orange crushes ($12), which was really good and fresh. The only small downside was the blackberry seeds but that's kind of expected since they muddle real fruit. Just a personal texture thing, not a dealbreaker. I also grabbed a t-shirt because the merch is genuinely cool. Shirts were $28 for a short-sleeve tee, which seems reasonable for a historic spot and a solid souvenir. Food-wise: the first night (Tuesday) they didn't have food, but Wednesday they did. We ordered the cowboy fries as a small plate. The menu isn't huge more bar snacks than full meals but it worked perfectly for grazing and hanging out. The vibe is where this place really shines. Rustic, grungy, slightly outlaw cowboy energy with a twist. There's a motorcycle mounted on the wall, a small stage between the front and back areas, and way more space than you'd expect. The front bar is smaller and cozy; the back bar is massive with tables and booths spread throughout. It's the kind of place you accidentally spend five hours just talking, drinking, and existing. Overall, great drinks, cool people, killer atmosphere, and serious character. We had such a good time and will absolutely be back next time we're in Baltimore."

"Lived in Baltimore a couple years but never came here before. The decor is amusing, quirky, and hilarious but honestly the food exceeded my expectations. Came an hour after opening when it was relatively quiet for lunch. I got a Wild West burger with fries (they were waffle fries) and the individual components were good and they also worked well together. Burger was well seasoned / flavorful. Very cheesy. Super crispy, plentiful bacon. Only wish there was more of the pickle / jalapeños which provided nice complexity to the burger. This was like a 9/10 burger which was a pleasant surprise. Waffle fries were solid/standard. Service was friendly."

"My wife and I went here for the first time while visiting spots in Baltimore associated with Edgar Allen Poe. This place is advertised as one of his last stops before he mysteriously died and we visited here on the same day we visited the house he lived in for 2 years between 1833-35 and after visiting his grave site in Baltimore. While food and service were excellent, we were also excited to enjoy live music while we ate. This is a bar and is probably the reason for how dimly lit it was in places in the bar, but that's why I rated the atmosphere as 4 stars. Regardless, we thoroughly enjoyed our wine, food and the time we visited and will definitely come back."

"Even though I've lived here 10 yrs, I didn't visit this place until yesterday, but as my buddy is visiting from out of state, we came for an afternoon cocktail- old fashioned. The bartender was great, even when a group of like 12 ppl walked in, he kept everyone taken care of. The ambiance and esthetic (saddle seats, even) give this place such a cool vibe, and the history alone is worth a visit."

"We arrived at the bar just as it opened for the day. We were the first ones inside since we waited about 20 minutes for them to open. We planned on going inside and getting a pre-lunch snack due to the historical nature of the building, but we decided to get lunch. The food was excellent, and the bar started to pick up as we finished. The bartender could not be nicer to us, and we really enjoyed the experience. We cannot comment on how it is later in the day or at night since we were not there at that time."
