"I came with my father and his partner for coffee beans, food and coffee drinks. First off, I came here last year in October (I don't live in the area, was visiting my father) and was highly impressed by everything there, especially their roasted coffees. The beans were a light - medium light roast and showcased the flavors that they put on the coffee labels. So I came back this year for the same. Unfortunately, it has changed ownership and the roasting is completely different. The new owners are roasting quite dark (past second crack) which is not to my taste at all. I would classify their roasting as medium dark roast with the beans beginning to sweat the coffee oils on their surface here and there. I purchased their Kenya Njuriga, Ethiopia Aricha and Ethiopia Wate Gogogu. I found all of the coffees undrinkable as filter brews and barely drinkable as espresso either. Had I known that ownership had changed until the last minute I would have rethought purchasing beans from them without asking questions about their roasting. That being said, I had beforehand gone through their website and it was the exact same as it was last year with the former owners. No mention of new ownership or any changes in any way. To be clear, EVERYTHING on the website is the exact same as it was with the former owners (to the point where I question the Values page and whether the new owners have actually served in the military like it says) I find it all extremely misleading and unfortunate at best. I wasted over $60 on coffee that I cannot drink. As far as the cafe goes, the space is quite nice and the other customers that were there when we visited were actually fantastic and made our visit quite nice. The food is decent, neither bad nor better than good but they should have at least one vegetarian option. The flat white that I had was, of course, too dark of a roast for my taste even with the milk added to it and I did not find it pleasant. If you like darker roasts you most likely will enjoy the coffee here. But as there is no mention of change of ownership/change of roast I feel very misled and wasted a nice chunk of change when I shouldn't have. For that I have to give 1 star."
"This is a review of the coffee. I did not try the cafe but it looked like a cute enough spot and the staff was helpful. I recently purchased the Brazil Capricornio Dulce Signature, I did so after finding multiple sources on Reddit claiming they were the best roaster in the Maryland area. The flavor notes sounded to my taste and I was looking to stretch to lighter coffees for espresso. I opted for an instore pick up, and was met by a price that was ~20% higher than the price listed on the website, taking into account tax. Why it was so much more expensive is not clear. The beans, are among the worst coffee beans I have tried. They are overall, city+ roast. Even once dialed in to, the dominating flavor of the beans are of ash. Not burnt, and in fact even with Starbucks beans that are charred to the point of removing any hint of origin I’ve never experienced this kind of flavor. It is nauseating. Think back to camping as a child, and throwing water on the dying coals before going to bed and getting a face full of coal dust, ash and steam if you weren’t fast enough in getting out of the path. That is the flavor of these beans. They are not a burnt flavor, they are of something that has burnt out. There is no other note that can stand up against it, and it drowns the palate. The beans are again, a city+ so something terrible must have happened during the roasting process. These beans should have been used for seasoning grinder burrs; to sell them, let alone at 20+\lb is insulting."
