What People Are Saying
from Google"The energy in this place is off. If you enjoy random sketchy people coming up to you uninvited, this might be your spot. The service was mediocre at best (Except for one server Conni, she was pretty sweet), and the food honestly felt questionable--I didn't feel great about eating there, which says a lot. I know it's a dive bar, but basic cleanliness shouldn't be optional. I'll give credit where it's due: the decor is actually pretty cool and has character. Unfortunately, that's about the only redeeming quality. There also seemed to be a lot of underage-looking drinking going on, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, the place just didn't feel safe or welcoming. Definitely got the kind of vibe where you're constantly watching your drink and your surroundings. Proceed with caution, especially if you're going with friends or young lady."
"I have been coming here for years. Its your typical local dark dive bar with great food and drinks. The Monday burger specials are a must. They have lost their crowd over the years, but the food and drinks are still consistent. They also have great happy hour specials between 3-6 PM. If you're from the area you know about this place. Parking is easy to find with plenty of street parking and there is a lot about 2 blocks away."
"Love this place! Amazing local beer selection, both on tap and in cans. Huge whisky menu. Great food, especially the burgers! So nice to have a great "dive ber" in downtown Silver Spring!"
"I come to quarry house every week with my friends and every time they claim they don’t recognize me. That’s fine but when they recognize folks they don’t have to show their ID. I came in with a digital ID accepted in Montgomery county and they chose to refuse service to me. That’s fine, except when I said I was sad about the white male bartender in a sushi button down shirt started yelling at me about how it’s my fault not his. I told him I know Connie and she is never like this and he proceeded to just ignore me and my paying customer friend for the rest of the time. I really appreciate quarry house and want to call it my local bar but it’s hard when I constantly feel tolerated not welcomed in the establishment. If I had entered with someone they chose to remember, they would’ve still served me."
"I’d strongly advise to any black and queer women/nonbinary, neurodivergent, or QPOC to take careful consideration before coming here, unless you’re looking to get racially profiled by a ginormous male security guard and monitored by only white male servers. Me and my friend came here for our very first time on Monday and our experience left us very dissatisfied and disappointed. We came in, seated ourselves, and suddenly the atmosphere was uncomfortable. Within only 5 mins of sitting down and reading the menu our server came by twice asking if we’re ready to order even though we’d already said we were still looking the first time. The ambiance was very noisy and overstimulating (which reflected on the performance of service that was being done). Our initial server brought my order of cheese tots out without any cheese on it, which is weird considering the name of the order is called CHEESE tots. We finally clear up the confusion about both me and my friend’s order after he didnt bring out her tray of tots which she also had ordered after me. While eating and engaging in conversation, we’d always catch the “security” door guard WATCHING us (with full eye contact) eat which made us changed seats because he was making our experience very uncomfortable. We changed seats and went to the back for quiet atmosphere and less faces watching us eat. We got a new waiter but the differential in service seemed highly questionable once we changed seats. Our new waiter was just as weird towards us and that’s when the animosity from the door guard grew even more stronger. In the back there are TWO restrooms for guests to use, my friend and I go into the same bathroom because it’s simply a normal thing that friends do sometimes. Still in the bathroom, I finally take my turn to use it, as I’m actively sitting on the toilet, we hear the LOUDEST bangs on the door which scared both me and my friend. On top of the banging from the big security guard, we could hear him fiddling with the handle as if he’s trying to enter inside. At this point we’re very frightened and ready to leave because he’s been monitoring ONLY us from the start and made our experience here so uncomfortable. We get ready to take our leave, my friend follows out before me because she was scared, so me still standing behind her, getting ready to pay our bill, when suddenly our weird waiter CHASES after us (we’re still standing in front btw) and goes “yea yea you need to pay” as if that’s not what we were literally about to do. In the front, I confronted the door guard and said “that was so unnecessary and rude!” he says to us “well you both shouldn’t be in the bathroom for 15 minutes” it wasn’t 15 minutes! let alone 10. Even if it were 15, we were in there USING the bathroom. If it was 15, that’d mean he was actively timing us. The racial profiling, and monitoring is absolutely unacceptable especially when it’s simply two black queer women who don’t pose as a threat whatsoever. The hostility we received from the workers at this pub was unacceptable."
