What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"Decent breakfast sandwich, amazing banana bread. Dropped by this past weekend to grab their famous breakfast sandwich and some pastries. The store didn’t have a lot of indoor seating, and as expected, it was completely full when we walked in. They had a fairly big outdoor patio, and the locals didn’t seem to mind seating out in freezing temps (or the food was that much worth it), but we waited for a couple minutes for their window counter seats to open up. Their signature biscuit breakfast sandwich was just okay. They compress and griddle the biscuit, which turns it into a dense, structured puck rather than a flaky vessel. Personally prefer a lighter crumb, so the texture felt a bit heavy. The banana bread, though, was really fascinating. The bread on its own wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but came with the most sophisticated topping combo I’ve seen. It had a pool of olive oil trapped by an ungodly amount of cream cheese on top, and I secretly wished they put more oil. I guess it’s similar to dipping fresh sourdough in high quality olive oil, but it hits with a layered collision of sweet, sour, nutty, and salty notes. Coffee was just okay. The malt iced coffee sounded interesting, but it was too bitter, with an odd aftertaste I couldn’t quite get past. Maybe it needed sugar, but it didn’t really click for me as-is."
"The strawberry jam biscuit is a standout, perfectly flaky with a rich, buttery texture. The jam is fresh and tangy, and the flaky salt on top adds a surprising burst of flavor that takes it to the next level. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Definitely grab one if you're in the area! Tandem Bakery in Portland, Maine, is a must-visit!"
"This is a great place for a coffee or a cappuccino. They have great service, it’s cozy and the inside was warm. The food was great too, with interesting options like an olive oil dish. I had the simply best scone ever. It was crispy and soft at the same time and not too doughy. 10/10 no questions asked. The quiche was also fantastic! It’s a must stop by for sure if you are in the Portland area"
"Very cute cafe in downtown Portland! We went because they are known for their biscuits and they did not disappoint! We visited a few hours after opening and they were already sold out of some things so I would recommend going earlier in the day if possible. There is a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, lots of natural light, water cups, and bathrooms. Would definitely recommend grabbing a quick treat from here if you're in the area! Plus they had free cute stickers! It also used to be an old gas station so the design of the cafe is very unique!"
"My daughter is a local and said I had to pre order and walk over and get biscuits. the biscuits are awesome for sure although I found the coffee, well, just coffee. The staff seemed blank and impersonal at least in the take out area but they are high volume and it's after a holiday. The quiche was very good but would have been better if I warmed it up. This is a very consistent bakery by the reviews and worth a stop. PARKING is an issue so walk if you can. I will add pictures later."
"I adore Tandem. This review is for the larger location on Congress, though I also love the smaller roastery location in the East End. I haunt Tandem on a..."
