"I recently moved back to the city and Grandy’s was the first Coney Island I tried—three times in a row actually—and honestly, I was disappointed at first. The fries were soggy, the bread on my coney was hard, and one time the chili was old and oily. Every visit happened late at night, so maybe it was the cook on shift, but the food just wasn’t hitting like it should. Most recently, though, my boyfriend and I went back and the food quality was significantly better. The coneys were fresh, the fries were crisp, and everything tasted way closer to what I expect from a good Detroit Coney spot. I really want to give credit where it’s due for that improvement. However, we were told there would be an additional $2.50 surcharge to use a debit card, which immediately threw me off. Under the Truth in Lending Act (Regulation Z), businesses cannot add extra surcharges to debit card transactions. Credit card surcharges have strict rules, but debit card surcharges are illegal altogether. What merchants can do is offer a cash discount, but they cannot add a fee for using debit. So while the food did get better, the debit card fee situation is a big issue and needs to be corrected immediately. I’m sharing this in hopes that management fixes it, because the improved food shows they’re capable of doing better—and Detroiters deserve better."

"My pancakes wasn’t fully cooked so I took them back into Grandy’s to get them right. The attitude the waitress gave me concerning my food that I paid for with the expectation that my food would be ready and served appropriately was very unsettling. The food usually be served and cooked well but this one particular waitress needs to treat the customer with respect especially when comes to a person who is spending their money for particular service."

"I ordered the big man breakfast, didn't get my bacon. Eggs were a tiny rubbery pile of garbage lacking any care or effort, sausage was store bought jimmy dean garbage, hashbrowns were a cold, soggy, and unseasoned disappoinment. The most positive part of the meal was the store bought buttered bread. Absolute trash, wasted my money and got less than half back for a pile of cold, wet, pathetic attempt at breakfast. A microwavable breakfast platter has more flavor and consistency. DO NOT WASTE TOUR MONEY HERE! It will disappoint you"

"i’ve been coming to this coney island for YEARS. back in like 2019/2020 the food was great. what you would expect from a good eastside coney island. BUT the last three times i’ve been here over the last few months, the food has been subpar at best. (also looks like it’s new staff and/or management- and it shows in the food quality.) tonight i grabbed chili cheese fries and corned beef eggrolls; the chili cheese fries were again disgusting. a splash of what tasted like old chili, old cheese, and burnt fries. the eggroll was no better- tasted like it was fried in old grease smh. whoever the cook is, has no idea how to make coney island food, and is using old food. trifling… i won’t be coming back to this one."
