from Google"This place is an important part of history!!! Medgar Evers and MLK met here! The pig ears sandwich was delicious. It had a crunchy and gelatinous texture that was amazing. The smoked sausage sandwiches were also very good. Just simply on historical fact, it’s worth the trip. I will bring my parents back to experience this part of history."
"No matter the outcome, I have no regrets about coming and trying this pig ear sandwich I’ve been hearing about. Either it was Food Network, or maybe TikTok, but as soon as I heard about it, I needed to try it. I marked Big Apple Inn on my map to make sure I went. I spent the night in Vicksburg and headed for my next overnight in Meridian. I planned my lunch at Big Apple Inn. As the map steered me towards the joint, the area got sketchier and sketchier. Down deserted, rundown streets in rundown neighborhoods. I started debating with myself whether I would even stop or not. I was feeling uneasy. I pulled up in front of the place and at first it looked like it was closed. As I slowly rolled by I saw the “open” sign and saw a lady sitting behind the counter. There was no one around and no customers inside. I pulled over quickly and ran inside. The lady looked up and asked me what I wanted. I wanted to try just one before I committed to any more. I asked for one pig ear sandwich, mild heat. She quickly put it together with a big slathering of mustard. The pig ears were all stacked in a steamer tray full of juices. She wrapped the sandwich up, threw it in a bag with some napkins and took my $2.40. I hurried back to my car and opened it up. In the short time it took me to get back to my car the whole thing was a gloppy mess. It was as small as a White Castle slider. I tasted nothing but a little bit of bread, a whole lot of mustard, and felt the glutinous pig ears. No flavor really. This place is a narrow, dark and dingy room. No ambiance at all. No character at all. Suffice to say, I didn’t go back in for any more sandwiches. My curiosity satisfied, but my hunger not satiated; i headed down the street and got some Taco Bell before heading back on the freeway for Meridian."
"This is a dive in a good way. Ordered a pig ear slider it was creamy but not much flavor but is the local favorite. The chopped sausage slider was good & spicey. The joint is inexpensive & staff was very friendly."
"The first time I went to the big apple was in 2003, I had never tried a pig sandwich and it was awesome. It’s down 2025 and I’m looking forward to going back there in the year of 2026 just to get that old flavor again. In my opinion, everything about that sandwich was delicious. I suggest everybody tries that eat pork."
