from Google"KATIE! What a wonderful waitress! I have been to helix multiple times and have always had a good experience. I would recommend reservations, it will make life easier because it can get busier. My only issue is that they took away my favorite dessert, the butterscotch truffle, and I want them to bring it back. But I’ve tried different items from the menu and I have no complaints. Highly highly recommend!"
"I went here for my boyfriend and I’s 4 year Anniversary. The food was really good but it was definitely a tad bit toooo salty, specially the scallops and the risotto. I think the presentation of the dish could be improved but overall it was a really nice place for date night! Great atmosphere and great service. We’ll definitely come back!"
"A quiet, intimate experience. Perfect for date night, or smaller celebrations. Great service from the staff & from what I could tell they organize reservations so servers aren't over sat so they can offer impeccable service. I went here in 2021 for my birthday and had the chocolate martini, pork belly & beef tostada's for apps and then I had the special which was shrimp & grits and it was heavenly. For dessert we had the Creme Brulle which was rich and tasted lovely. It is higher in price but worth it, can't wait to dine here again soon to try something new."
"We came to helix for our anniversary dinner since it was the place where we had our first date at many years ago and, a lot has changed unfortunately not for the best, I made de reservation days ago requesting to be put in a quieter or more private area since it was an anniversary dinner for two, instead we were sat down at white table with coffee stains between the kitchen and the bathroom, which seemed to be the most unromantic area. The lady at the front didn’t even read the comment I left for the reservation or the number of guests on her iPad when she asked if it was only us two. The establishment isn’t big but our waiter was a little slow on refills, my husband drank from my water and wine and when the waiter noticed he brought a glass bottle of water and didn’t set it nicely on the table and left in a rush, the uniform on the waiters and waitress was okay, some of them where wearing hoodies and sweaters which made the restaurant look like a bar/diner when we were looking for a more fancy atmosphere. The place gets really loud to the point I had to move my chair right next to my husband to hear him. The food didn’t seem to reflect what it costs, what we ordered looked like an easy recipe to follow and it had nothing special about it, the dishes don’t come out hot, our plates got cold in 2 minutes which made it part of our unpleasant experience, I was ready to walk out the door when we were sat down, but my husband decided to stay and make it our last time at Helix, overall it was not a good experience."
"We were visiting Grand Forks from out of town, and Helix was recommended to us by a friend. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the scotch eggs were fantastic, and after struggling to choose between several delicious-sounding entrées, we were very happy with our meals. My only complaint involves their pricing structure. Their dinner salads range from $16 to $18, with some including chicken. The menu also encourages guests to ask about adding chicken or salmon to any salad. We ordered the Helix dinner salad, which normally comes with chicken, and asked about substituting salmon instead. Our server mentioned there might be a small upcharge but said it shouldn’t be a problem. Boy, was there ever an upcharge. The Helix salad with chicken is $18. Substituting salmon added an additional $18. Had we known that switching to salmon would double the cost of the entrée, we may have chosen something else from their otherwise wonderful menu. To be fair, the portion of seared salmon was generous—but the pricing still felt very unexpected and, frankly, unfair."
