"Server was nice but service was incredibly SLOW! Two plates pictured here is wha we ordered and it took about an hour to get to us AND we got our meals separately. Not cool. Flavor was on point with the dishes (except the fish, I didn’t taste any seasoning at all) but for me the green beans were inedible because of the texture. It was very mushy. Not sure if I would recommend due to wait times and them being out of several items."

"We were flying out of Newark and wanted to grab a quick bite before travel. We lucked up and found this gem on instagram. We are already ready to return home to grab more food from Madre & Son. They put both feet in these dishes. I wish I could post the video of my 6 year old devouring the honey garlic shrimp. The entire time he just kept saying mmm, mmm with every bite😋. Great portion for the prices. Service was also great!"

"Man, all I can say is I tasted heaven today!! Hands down the BEST SOUL FOOD I've ever tasted not even my 10 years living in Georgia can compare. We literally stumbled upon this hidden gym, which 9 out of 10 are usually the BEST spots! Kudos to staff but hands down to the chef #yummyinmytummy. We had the amazing oxtail, the finger licking wings and the can't put down chicken & waffles. The cabbage and yam took it to a whole other level too!"

"Solid. I love okra so this is why I tried this place. Their okra has a little teeny bit of sugar in it, which is a new one for me. But I’m going to eat them. I find that northern soul food adds sugar to dishes for some reason. Same with the cabbage and the greens they were a lil sweet. Green beans were fine. But they forgot my drink.. But I like my containers because I can use them again. All in all not bad."

"We discovered this restaurant through TikTok and decided to take the hour drive to Newark for the experience—and it did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Kim, which set the tone for a great visit. I ordered the catfish, mac & cheese, and candied yams—all served hot and right on time. Every bite was full of flavor and truly satisfying. My daughter had the wings, and let me tell you, they were to die for—crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection! While we missed out on the blueberry bread and lemonade (only available Thursdays and Fridays), it didn’t take away from our experience one bit. Our taste buds were still beyond happy. Definitely worth the trip—can’t wait to go back!"
