from Google"Went in with my partner for dinner, the place is really nice and the vibe is really cozy. The food was really great, everything cooked really well including the steak as desired. We got the tomato soup which was really good. The servers were amazing and helped us with all our questions. My only note would be that the lighting is extremely dim, which is part of the atmosphere, but slight changes could be made to make it easier to read the menu and see the food. A bigger candle or a less frosted candle holder would definitely do good."
"We were in the mood for a well-cooked steak nothing fine dining, just solid food and this place delivered. Cozy spot, great service, and very well-executed dishes; you can tell they know what they’re doing with meat. For two, the parrillada for one and the ribeye work perfectly. Both were flavorful, tender, and rich. The breaded chicken was also excellent crispy and juicy. We had a beer and a tinto de verano, both on point. Empanadas are worth ordering too."
"We were very close to calling the police over this situation!!!!! We went to Tabaré (Bushwick) to celebrate Christmas Eve with my family, my partner, and I. My parents had come all the way from Spain, so it was meant to be a special night. The restaurant is Uruguayan and, to be fair, the food was okay, nothing outstanding. However, the overall experience was extremely disappointing due to a very serious issue: we were charged money without our authorization. Our bill was $276. We paid with a card and did NOT include a tip on the card, because we left $20 in cash on the table. On the receipt, we clearly marked that we were not leaving a tip on the card (two lines). When we got back to the hotel, we noticed that instead of $276, we had been charged $296 — $20 extra. Two days later, we called the restaurant to ask about this charge, and their explanation was shocking. They claimed that tipping is mandatory in the United States (which is absolutely false) and that because they thought the service was “excellent,” they decided to charge themselves an extra $20, despite the fact that we had already left a cash tip. In other words, they expected to keep $40 in tips without our consent. This is completely unacceptable and illegal. I live in the U.S. with my partner and I know very well that tips are not mandatory, and no restaurant has the right to modify a card charge without permission. If you decide to eat here, check your card charges very carefully. We felt scammed, we will never return, and we do not recommend this place at all."
"Tabaré is a total gem. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting with a cool, rustic aesthetic that fits perfectly in the neighborhood. Every dish we tried was full of flavor. The grilled octopus and the Uruguayan empanadas were standouts. You can tell the kitchen puts care into every plate. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our server took the time to walk us through the menu and gave excellent recommendations. The cocktails were also top-notch. Creative, strong, and very well balanced. This is the kind of place that works for a casual night out, a date, or dinner with friends. I’ll definitely be back soon. Highly recommend."
"A very meat heavy Uruguayan restaurant, has another location in Billyburg. The inside is very dimly lit. The dishes are tender and juicy for very reasonable price."
