What People Are Saying
from Google"Unfortunately, the service really overshadowed our experience. While I understand it gets busy, we were rushed to order and met with attitude throughout the meal. One server even slammed the ordered hot chocolate down at our table. Toward the end, we were rushed out despite there being clearly open tables available. As for the food, it was okay overall but not worth the high prices. The mushroom wrap was basic—good, but not worth $19.50. The golden folded eggs were fine as well, but price was higher than deserved and upcharged to $24 for a halloumi substitution (we don’t eat pork). The BYOB was bland. The French toast was the worst we’ve ever had and the worst dish there. We asked for no nut crumble inside and were told it was premade and couldn’t be removed. It was barely warm, very dry, and essentially like bread with chocolate spread. On the positive side, the seasonal matcha tasted exactly like described—strong maple flavor and slightly too sweet, but accurate. The golden latte was standard compared to others I’ve had. The mushroom wrap was the best dish we tried, and the drinks overall were good. All in all, the food wasn’t bad, but it was underwhelming and not up to the standard for Aussie inspired brunch in NYC. Some dishes were disappointing, and the poor service really sealed the experience for us."
"Batner NYC is a lovely spot in the West Village. The food is fresh, creative, and comforting. Everything we ordered was delicious. The only thing that was kinda off for me personally- my Golden latte was not exactly hot, some people call it “kid-temp” but for me it’s simply lukewarm. So if you like your coffee hot - make sure you mention it. The atmosphere was very pleasant and service great without trying too hard. Would happily come back."
"Banter in the West Village has officially become one of my comfort spots in the city. The space is bright and relaxed, with that easy Australian café energy and a steady hum of conversation that feels very neighborhood in the best way. You can sit inside and watch the baristas work or grab a sidewalk table and people watch your way through brunch. The matcha is fantastic here, smooth and well balanced without being too grassy or too sweet, and the ginger tangerine tea is exactly what I want on a chilly day, fragrant, citrusy, and soothing. The kale and avo salad with grilled chicken is a standout, hearty enough for a full meal yet still light, with quinoa, creamy avocado, and a sweet and spicy dressing that ties everything together. The avocado toast with a perfectly poached egg hits all the right notes, great sourdough, generous avo, and that runny yolk situation that makes every bite better. A side of bacon is crispy, smoky, and very shareable, although you may not want to. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it is busy, and it feels like the team genuinely cares about the experience. Knowing that Banter is now employee owned makes the hospitality make even more sense, there is pride in how everything comes out of the kitchen and how guests are treated. If you are in the West Village and craving a great matcha, a bright tea, and fresh, thoughtful food, Banter should be on your short list."
"Good and tasty food, nice spot. We were able to get a table for 2 within a 10 minutes wait on a Sunday morning. 👌 Service was fast. Had an enjoyable experience. Somewhat pricy and I hope the quality and origin of the ingredients justifies it."
"By far one of my favorite places for brunch. You can’t go wrong with the Banter Big Breakfast and a Green Vitality juice - that’s our go to every time we visit. Staff is always friendly and efficient in service."
