What People Are Saying
from Google"Café Gitane in SoHo is a charming spot that blends French and Moroccan flavors in a unique and cozy setting. It has that neighborhood feel, tucked away but very much a local favorite. The service is warm and attentive, which adds to the overall experience. We tried the Chicken Parmesan sandwich, which was excellent — flavorful, hearty, and well balanced. The hamburger was just okay, not bad but nothing particularly special compared to other options in the area. The atmosphere is quite lively and on the louder side, with the space itself being relatively small, so don’t expect a quiet or spacious dining experience. That said, it’s part of the charm: it feels authentic, bustling, and very local. Overall, Café Gitane is a great stop if you’re in SoHo and looking for a casual place with character, good service, and tasty food that mixes French bistro classics with Moroccan touches."
"Had a nice meal at Cafe Gitane. I tried the baked eggs with tomato, which had a pleasant, light taste and were really good. My friend ordered the couscous and enjoyed that as well. Overall, a positive experience!"
"The place is old style. Good tables and good atmosphere The coffee isn’t the best but I think that the place and history makes it a place you wanna be and visit again. You can not bring your laptop here and that is so cool. The only downside is that you leave smelling like fried food and smoke."
"I had a terrible experience here. It was honestly some of the worst service I’ve ever received. The staff were extremely rude, and the servers kept hovering as if they wanted us to leave. We were rushed so much that I didn’t even feel comfortable ordering anything beyond a drink. The whole vibe was off. My friends and I left feeling disappointed and pushed out, and we had only come for coffee and breakfast. I would not recommend this place."
"It WAS a classic NoLita fave. Excellent coffee. Great vibes, typically a cool international crowd. Solid food. My issue is the service has become very overbearing perhaps in their effort to turn tables over. Arrogant servers hound you to order quickly and clear your plate before you finish chewing your last bite. Could be a little more relaxed here. If they improved their service I’d dine her a lot more."
