What People Are Saying
from Google"Great coffee. Excellent espresso, pure enjoyment. Cappuccino with oat milk is also great. A true professional barista. Nice atmosphere and great presentation."
"TL;DR — The coffee is absolutely amazing! For anyone interested in a more thorough review: Upfront disclaimer: I’ve known and worked in coffeeshops with the owner for about 20 years. Having said that, if I didn’t believe the following, I wouldn’t spend my time writing and posting it. And I believe it’s important to evaluate things for what they are and not to compare two similar, yet distinctly different things to each other. Soooooo… Superhet is NOT a coffeeshop to sit down with a laptop and work. In fact, the only place to sit is outside on a pretty nice bench next to a sweet guitar case-turned coffee table. And this one of a kind coffee table is a perfect springboard to describe what Superhet is, an amazing Heavy Metal coffeeshop. It kind of reminds me of Duff’s in Brooklyn, especially the old Duff’s down by the water, if anyone remembers that place. It is a place that is authentic, one-of-a-kind, and that makes, and is unfortunately disappearing quickly, New York original and different. The place may not be for everyone, but if it is for you, then it is FOR YOU. And if it’s not for you, chances are you can still get a drink you will enjoy, and it’s probably going to be a higher quality and cheaper than the same drink somewhere else. There is a VERY wide selection of coffees to choose from, from a drip batch brewed coffee that changes every other day, to 4 or 5 options for a made-to-order pour over, to 4 or 5 single origin espressos. The selections are mainly washed, light-roasted coffees, and are very well extracted. For the coffee heads out there, this means percentages up to the mid-twenties. But make no mistake, Superhet isn’t looking for extraction percentages to say what tastes good and how a coffee should be brewed. The owner has been refining his palate and approach to brewing beautiful, delicate coffees for decades. And his years of professional experience, combined with choice beans from great roasters - both national AND international - make Superhet a must-stop for coffee drinkers. If you’ve been before and didn’t like the music, or thought it was too loud, or didn’t like something NOT related to the coffee, I would recommend giving this place another try. And maybe next time try to think of slightly less intense version of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. This may help you experience things and order from the owner’s perspective. This long review could’ve been condensed to: coffee is absolutely amazing, the vibe may not be for everyone. But I think it’s important to celebrate and give a thorough review of such a unique, one-man operation that does something to the highest standard because of a true love for their work. THESE are the types of places that make NYC so special."
"This is the best coffee shop in NYC hands down. Manuel Amaro has over 20 years of experience in the coffee business and his shop is proof of it. He sources some of the best coffee beans in the world and knows how to extract the flavor out of them. His unique drinks like the coquito latte and tonic water with espresso and spicy lime are something I’ve never seen before. Come here if you’re about coffee and want an actual good cup of it."
"What can you say about a solitary coffee experience that has savoir faire in spades, including the Ace of Spades? SuperHet Coffee is owned and operated by one guy - Manny- who is exacting, skilled and unpretentious while being unforgiving in his demands for quality and taste. I didn’t know that I needed a close quartered heavy metal coffee shop that regularly serves the finest coffee I have consumed - both in bean quality and preparation. But more than the style and the excellence of the coffee is the full hearted and unapologetic expression of one man’s passion. To be a customer of SuperHet is to be in on something good."
"Where can I start? First off, hands-down Superhet has best coffee in Harlem. These guys really pay attention to the work that they do — focused on specific beans, roasts, small-scale producers, etc. — and really make an awesome cup of joe. Even their basic drip coffee is fantastic. Great vibes, great pet lovers, and Manny the owner is an extremely nice guy. I literally go there every day with my dogs — with Manny usually greeting them at the door with treats! And seriously - who doesn’t want to support a locally run heavy metal coffee shop?"
