What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"Not only is the venue attached to the restaurant/ coffee shop extremely unique but the small service window of Blackened out back really wraps up this one of a kind experience. The food is phenomenal and very well prepared. Everything has thought behind it and the main focus of removing cruelty from your breakfast is truly captivating. Each item, cleverly named, has its own place on the menu but everything vibes so well together. My partner and I traveled all the way from Portland, OR to try this new Columbus staple in the vegan world. We will be back as often as possible and look forward to trying each variation of the menu as the seasons change around our visits. Kudos to the staff for being so well knowledged, friendly, and inviting."
"This all vegan breakfast spot is amazing! Everything I’ve sampled from the menu has been delicious, but the All Black and Blue and the Warpig are my favorites. If the weather is bad, head inside and upstairs for a cozy little place to enjoy. I will say, every time I have been (three times so far) the wait has been 10-25 minutes. BUT it’s clear they make everything to order and the crew seems to range from one to three people. This is not a negative against them in my opinion, just know you may have a bit of a wait."
"Updating this review because since coming, I have become obsessed. If you haven’t gone to blackened yet, you need to sprint not run over. They do not miss! Both their drinks and vegan sandwiches are incredible. We love the drinks “this shit is bananas” and “black and blue” and literally any of the sandwiches. And all of the staff is incredibly nice. Cannot recommend this place more!"
"In the summertime I got to have a French toast sandwich from Blackened, which is one of the coolest and most novel vegan meals I've ever had. I really hope they bring it back sometime. More recently I had the Sow and Destroy sandwich. The bun could be improved upon, but overall it was a good sandwich. I like the tang of the mustard sauce, which helped balance the richness of the meal. The seitan sausage was made with quinoa, and that helped keep it from being too "heavy" like a lot of seitan-based meats tend to be. They use good vegan cheese, too. One thing that puzzles me is how terrible the coffee is. It was so bad that when I got home I poured it down the sink and made my own. I really expected the coffee to at least be drinkable from a place with "coffee" in the name. I hope they will consider hiring a coffee consultant or something, because if they could match the quality of their coffee to the quality of their food, they'd be perfect."
"Writing this review after my third visit. Short version: Delicious, fully vegan breakfast/lunch spot with creative flavors. The specialty coffee drinks are a must-have Long version: Every item I've ordered here has been delicious! Across three visits I've ordered The Warpig sandwich, The Slapper sandwich (pictured) This Shit Is Bananas coffee (both as-is and subbed strawberry syrup for pistachio, pictured) and the All Black and Blue coffee. The Warpig is nice and hearty, while The Slapper is refreshing and light while still being filling. Both specialty coffees are immensely flavorful and easily stand on their own! This Shit Is Bananas tastes like fresh baked banana bread, while the All Black And Blue tastes like a homemade blueberry muffin. The staff are all exceptionally friendly and passionate about the work they do, and from the customer POV it's clear that the team really gets along well, making for a pleasant and welcoming experience. I didn't feel rushed at all, even during their grand opening. Overall, top notch spot. I plan on returning many, many times."
"Let me tell you what- this place might be my new obsession. Coffee is amazing and food is equally as stellar. The hash brown is perfectly crispy and tasty..."
