What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"Well it’s one of those places that you’d probably hate but you keep going back to! The environment is very cozy and nice, beautiful artwork on the walls, but man o man.. there were egg shells on the floor, total messy counter.. half of the time some one would call: “Some thing something latte” and well you have to guess that is yours:/ we ordered 4 drinks one of which we got what we ordered for, rest were missing some thing! Though staff were super nice and friendly! I got a hot chocolate for my Mexican mocha😁 and the guy was like no no let me fix it and added a shot of espresso in there, and said does it taste cinnamon or did we forget that?🤣 the cherry danish was super awesome though! Cleanness: not so much! Service: nope Food: good People: nice Access: walking mostly"
"the food is great and well priced, the atmosphere is eclectic but sometimes take a while as there is only one or two worker"
"Ok, this place is disgusting - and I say that as an incredibly empathetic hospitality & food services worker of many years. I am leaving this review as I am genuinely concerned for customer safety. I have worked BOH and FOH in fine dining, bars, catering services, etc… and throughout all of my work I have always had the same main priory, FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY. This is a very serious priory both ethically and professionally. I ordered an iced oatmilk latte as well as an almond croissant a few days back. I tipped 20% without hesitation, as always. I watched in horror as the barista poured a completely unmeasured amount of dark brown liquid from an UNCOVERED PITCHER, and then topped it off with milk that was sitting atop a counter among an array of other milks (dairy included) that didn’t seem as if they had or were going to see a refrigerator anytime soon. Besides the obvious safety issues pertaining to the uncovered pitcher and unrefrigerated milk, this was by no means a latte. A latte is created via espresso - which absolutely does not take form in a large, uncovered, room temperature pitcher. The concoction I received was disgusting and I tossed it after a single sip. The milk also seemed off, the drink was very grainy and had white floating chunks in it. Absolutely not a latte that I had willingly paid $5+ for. The almond croissant I received tasted fine, but was stale and also completely room temperature. I have no mal intentions for the barista. They are likely just following policy & showing up to work as scheduled, which I will always respect. I was greeted with respect, patience, and kindness, and do not regret my 20% tip at all. I hope it went to them and not this literally filthy establishment. The management of this restaurant, however, is failing despicably. I would be positively mortified. This place needs to be inspected ASAP."
"Love this place! It’s the best coffee shop near campus, with plenty of space for chatting, studying, and relaxing. They’ve got a wide variety of cheap drinks and pastries-I always go for their croissant sandwiches! The workers are all friendly and talkative, and it’s a great place to go if you’re practicing your Spanish. Highly recommend for anyone needing a quick coffee or a study space."
"I love coffee and cafes. Give me a latte and a place to sit and I’m happy. But Espresso Roma is one of the only cafes I’ve ever been to that I can say I dislike. I’ve been multiple times now and I am so disappointed every visit. First, the place is a mess, and just really gross. There are always tons of flies buzzing around the seating area. The building itself and the inside is dilapidated and clearly needs work. And not in a fun rustic way, in more of a “oh god this building is collapsing” way. I’ve also seen food prep remnants like egg shells sprawled on the ground. The coffee is not worth it either. It’s either incredibly burnt for me, or super watered down and bland. I saw someone say they poured espresso out of a pitcher and I wouldn’t be surprised lol. Lastly, the service is really poor. I am not one to care about customer service and I know baristas have a hard job. But holy cow, every time I order, it feels like I’M doing them a disservice! I did some digging, and it turns out that Espresso Roma received failing health safety scores recently. There were concerns about food being kept at dangerous temperatures and being prepped in the presence of bugs. They were instructed to order pest control, and they actually didn’t even do it until the health inspector checked in weeks later and asked them about it! Given the number of flies I see inside, this does not surprise me. So gross. I really want to like this cafe. The location is awesome and it has huge potential. But I cannot recommend it. There are no redeeming factors. You will be disappointed - take your money elsewhere."
