from Google & Yelp"I dont go into the downtown Portland area much but I have been trying to come to this restaurant for a while now and when I would drive by this restaurant there would always be a line outside and their dinning area is small so the wait is about 20-35 mins per group but luckily today i was able to get in without having to wait outside. The food here is delicious, so I ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy served with 2 eggs, sliced potatoes(hashbrowns) and toast. I figured if the gravy is good then the rest of the food on the menu has to be good and the gravy was a hit for me. The food was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered a pumpkin mancake and she could not finish it so I did lol, that pumpkin mancake hit the spot. The pancakes here are huge so order carefully lol. I will definently be returning to try other dishes. The staff is very cool and polite, best service anyone could ask for. My wife is trying not to eat dairy but there wasn't any said dairy substitutes on the menu which is fine, we still ate lol. Theres a nostalgic vibe in the restaurant. It is small so it is hard to get in with a wheelchair but they can get you at one of the couple of tables next to the door. Definitely try this place if you haven't yet."
"The fresh food exudes a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of the 1980s. Although we had to wait about 35 minutes, it was well worth it for a delightful brunch on the weekend. The prices are quite reasonable, especially when compared to other places in the area."
"The food was great and we felt the prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes! Our server was very nice. Would recommend breakfast here."
"Such a gem, so glad we went here. We were meeting my daughters for breakfast on a Monday. This was close to our location so we gave it a try. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The service was excellent- such a wonderful experience. The coffee was hot & yummy with regular refills. The staff were friendly & upbeat. We all had breakfast- very satisfying meal & a great local restaurant. The menu is huge, lots of choices. They were super easy with substitutions & any specific requests like extra crispy bacon. We all look forward to going again."
"Update Jan. 12, 2026 Had an appetite for biscuits and gravy and ordered some with two eggs. When my plate arrived I couldn't believe the size of my order. Huge is putting it mildly, but it went down hill fast. The eggs were perfectly cooked, sausage gravy was great...BUT...the biscuits were like eating sponges. Massive, yes, but dull and flavorless which is too bad, because I really, really like Stepping Stone's food, atmosphere, and friendly staff. Sometimes you strike out, Stepping Stone's biscuits and gravy struck out big time. Next time I'll order the mancake, eggs Benedict, cornbeef hash, etc., they're the best! Update Dec. 4, 2025 Was in the neighborhood for a doctor's appointment and wanted breakfast afterwards. I've had their corned beef hash, eggs Benedict. Both were delicious, so I decided to try the El Benedicto Loco. It was great! Think of eggs Benedict meets a lovely Señorita. English muffins with carnitas, avacado and poached eggs. Topped with house salsa Verde, Pico de Gallo, sour cream and cotija cheese with homemade hash brown potatoes. Needless to say, I scarfed it down in record time, because it was sooo good, all while watching and listening to 80s music videos! Today's visit was quiet and in between breakfast and lunch so my poched eggs were expertly done, when I cut into them the yoke mixed with the other ingredients perfectly. Breakfast heaven! This Portland institution is a small crowded space with wickedly good food. I had the corned beef hash topped with two poached eggs covered with hollandaise sauce which was very good, but not excellent. The eggs were cooked almost hard with yokes barely runny. Had the eggs been properly poached, I would have rated the meal as excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with friendly staff. The place itself is small and tight spaced with counter, table, and booth service. They're best known for their breakfasts, so if you go for your first meal of the day, it's best go early as it fills quickly and the wait can be long. But, oh so worth it."
