What People Are Saying
from Google"You will not leave hungry or broke. Original location has a wait on game days. Other times during the week, no wait. Definitely worth the wait. Onion rings were a wonderful surprise. Friends talked up the sandwiches all month and lived up to the praise. Butcher quality sandwiches for a similar price of fast food. Unbelievable!Excellent customer service as well! A must visit in Strip District!"
"Recommended to me that I come here while on a work trip. Happen to end up at the original location. Cool little establishment. Got their famous pastrami. Not a big coleslaw person. But the coleslaw was both flavorful and not overly saucy. It was a great addition to the sandwich. Staff where super friendly. Highly recommend"
"If you're in Pittsburgh it's worth a visit to the strip district to the original Primanti Bros. The staff was friendly, and the food was great. It's a cool old school atmosphere. Afterwards take a walk around the ack streets. There is a pizza place not too far that has good gelato."
"All right, I am going to say it – I absolutely do not understand the hype around these sandwiches. On a recent trip to Pittsburgh before heading to a Steelers game, my dad, my husband, and I felt that we had to do the quintessential Pittsburgh thing and get a Primanti Bros sandwich. I ordered what essentially was a burger-sandwich (the Pittsburgh sandwich) while my dad and my husband tried the pastrami sandwich. When the sandwiches arrived, we were blown away by how massive in size they were. Luckily, the bread is very soft and compacts down so that you can actually pick up the sandwich and take a reasonable bite. But without some sort of notable sauce or anything, we all felt that the sandwiches were extremely dry and unremarkable. Adding french fries did not help with the dryness but exacerbated it. I got so desperate I ended up dunking my Pittsburgh sandwich in ketchup just to have enough moisture to get it down. Again, if someone could please explain to me what the hype is around these sandwiches I would greatly appreciate it. Service was fast, but it’s Pittsburgh so it wasn’t very friendly. The space gave off a sports bar type vibe. I’m glad I tried it so that I could say I have but I highly doubt I would ever come back."
"Follow PGH steely on Facebook for more local reviews Yinz already know I gotta say it — there’s nothin’ like the original. I had to stop dahn at Primanti Bros., and man… this place just hits different. The second you walk in, it feels like Pittsburgh history slapped between two slices of Italian bread. I went with the When Pigs Fly sandwich, and holy hell — stacked high with pork, bacon, fries, slaw, and all the beautiful chaos Primanti’s is known for. Messy in the best way. The kind of sandwich you gotta lean over the paper and commit to. No dainty bites. Just full-send Yinzer energy. On the side, I grabbed the fries and fried pickles, and they were exactly what you want in a place like this — hot, crispy, salty, and perfect for soaking up whatever beer you’ve got in front of you. Those pickles? Crunchy, golden, and gone way too fast. But honestly, the food’s only half the story. Between the old-school neon out front, the snowy Strip District night, and the walls covered in Pittsburgh legends — Pirates, Steelers, Terrible Towels, and faces every local grew up hearing about — the nostalgia is unreal. You’re not just eating a sandwich, you’re sittin’ inside a piece of the city. This is the kind of place that reminds you why Pittsburgh is Pittsburgh. Gritty. Loud. Proud. No frills. Just damn good food and history dripping off the walls. If you’ve only ever been to a newer Primanti’s… do yourself a favor. Go to the original. Get messy. And remember why this city eats the way it does. #yinzereats #pghfoodie #undefeatedinthestrip #goodeats #supportlocal"
