"A wonderful delight for my bite. NYC Deli & Tobacco. “HALAL!” Conveniently located right off route 422/Perkiomen Ave. After seeing a video posted by Reading, Pa’s “Queen Of Wings,” & resident poet Aries, I decided to give this eatery a go. Before I begin this review I wanna let all of you newcomers in on something. I don’t like chopped cheese sandwiches and up until now, I hated them thanks to La Bodega. A short lived restaurant here in Reading, Oa. You can see their review on my page as well. Now to the review. I was initially attracted because their chopped cheese looked 👀 very appealing and as we all know in the world of food, looks do most of the selling. I was advised to get one with extra cheese and extra seasoning and although wings were advised, I opted to go with lamb and rice. Upon entering the building I noticed they made it smaller by shortening the length of the former counter and squaring it off. I am a big guy, hence the name and let’s just say that if two more big guys like myself visited this place, there wouldn’t be any room for another customer. As I was surveying the area, the aromatic scent from the Mediterranean spices being used, took me a place I’ve longed to be. This journey of mines has been a long one and this is my first experience with food from this culture. After I gathered my senses, pun intended, I did my usual routine and gave the place a look over. I am 6ft4 and can see things that many others can’t. Like dust on top of a refrigerator etc. Needless to say they passed my eye 👁️ inspection so I walked over and placed my order for a chopped cheese with light mayo, extra cheese & seasoning and no green 🫑 I also ordered a lamb and rice bowl with sour cream and spicy sauce. After ordering I made my way to the side of the meat display case so I could watch them make the food and to absorb as much of that wonderful aroma as possible. Now when I say wonderful aroma. Imagine Whimpy getting a whiff of a burger then floating across the screen. It’s takeout only so once I got back home I opened the chopped cheese first. It was well put together just like I saw in the Queen Of Wings video. It was slightly greasy as you can see in the video, but it wasn’t bad and didn’t have an effect on the roll. I took my first bite and knew that my decision to add extra cheese and seasoning was a good one. It was very good and I tasted the seasoning throughout the entire sandwich which leads me to believe they seasoned both sides of the patties. The roll was a basic hoagie roll. Nothing spectacular, but it worked. I’d love to see this sandwich on a soft, ATV roll. I believe it would make this sandwich top tier and A MUST HAVE. This is coming from a food reviewer who just happens to be in the top 10% of those who review eateries on Google. The star of this review is the lamb and rice bowl. Listen 👂🏾 closely. This shizz was hitting on levels my taste buds couldn’t describe. Normally I can run down the spices being used in a recipe by taste. As I begin eating, I noticed two distinct spices that I’ve had before, but didn’t know the name. I didn’t care though because this jawn sent me swinging like Mint Condition! I am not a person who likes hot food, but the heat on this was just the right amount. The burn didn’t hit my throat, NO DIDDY. Instead the burn hit my lips, NO DIDDY & I didn’t mind it because the tomato and lettuce balanced it out and cooled things down. The basmati rice was fluffy and has its own vibe going on, but the star of the dish is the lamb. 🐑 It was seasoned to perfection and something that I’ll be eating more of. I recommend NYC deli they have some of your favorite foods from the Town im talking Halal,chop cheese,beef patties with coco bread and so much more,if you from NY you'll know as soon as you try this place I give them a 10/10"

"I watched the owner pull the entire place apart to clean it before he opened and he maintains that cleanliness. I've stopped in twice since they've opened. First for a couple breakfast sandwiches; they were amazing and made exactly like I asked for. Then I got a gyro the next day. I don't know if this guy seasons his own lamb or buys it that way, but it was the best gyro I've ever had! Plus, he told me, if I like spicy he'd put his hot sauce on it for me. This hot sauce was the perfect blend of heat and flavor! I can't recommend this place enough! Prices are great too, especially for the quality of the food they have!"
