"The hotel is in a great spot. Front desk was friendly and prompt. Rooms have great amenities, clean and spacious. There were some real issues after this that really hurt the overall experience though. No real concierge available. Have to email and slow to respond. Beds are far too hard for a luxury hotel. Hard to get rest if your not use to probably the hardest mattress I’ve ever had to sleep on. Breakfast provided at door nice touch but very budget. Bathroom fans needed replaced. They both rattled horribly and one was hanging down from the ceiling. Also, not sure if it was our room in particular, but the last two nights awoke to loud droning outside @5am. Walls are very thin and let in a lot of outside noise along with hearing next room overs conversations."

"We loved this hotel. The small details made our stay wonderful and memorable. The breakfast baskets are such a great touch. The shuttle service was very convenient. The location just off of King Street is perfect. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. There are complementary snacks and drinks. In addition to the wine and cheese each evening. Definitely recommend and will stay again."

"Love this hotel! Each room/suite is beautifully decorated. Can accommodate many different family sizes - we have rented the 3 BR suite with roof deck 2x, The Exchange Suite for wedding welcome parties and have stayed in various other suites. Love The Watch for casual rooftop dining and the Sunday brunch is fantastic. Staff is incredible and location is the best!"

"We have been upgraded both times we made a reservation here. Rooms are nice and large. We have only stayed on the residence side. Washer and dryer are a nice added feature. My only con… last stay they had warm cookies nightly in the lobby. This stay apparently they have been discontinued. The morning baskets and cookies are a joy to toddlers. Recommend BRING BACK THE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES PLEASE"

"My new bride and I stayed at this hotel for five nights, beginning November 2, 2025. Google says this property is a "four star hotel". but in my opinion it's there only in price. We had stayed here one night, just over six years ago (in a "signature suite"), and really enjoyed the place. This time around, however, the luster was definitely dulled. Our room was a "one bedroom residence", which was acceptable, but actually not what we had intended to stay in. We initially booked a "premier balcony suite" direct with the hotel, but in an effort to save money, we canceled and rebooked via Expedia. That produced a double doo-doo result: the residence is inferior to the premier suite (the "view" from the terrace is more or less a brick wall across the street), and we actually paid MORE when all was said and done. Anyway, on to the actual experience. The person who checked us in tapped my card repeatedly in an effort to get it into their system for incidentals, and that resulted in multiple $500 authorizations that took some time to drop off my account. The huge parking deck right beside the hotel is now permanently closed, making the $38/night valet parking more or less mandatory. The attached coffee shop did not have decaf coffee. We could not book a ride in the hotel car more than 10 or 15 minutes in advance. The hotel was unable to provide an itemized bill of room charges at any point during our stay--only incidentals. They claimed that was down to us booking through Expedia. As a former hotel manager, I say that's a bunch of bull. We got more "we can't" and "we don't" responses than anybody should get in a purported four star hotel. Just about everything provided in the room as an "amenity" carried an extra charge. Our room was noisy as hell, both from hallway chatter and outside noise (including jackhammering on the street at 3 AM on our final night), something I believe is unique to the structure it's in and the room's location in it. And, as the cherry on top, due to some sort of botched exchange of data between the hotel and Expedia, our advance payment wasn't applied at check-in, resulting in thousands more dollars of authorizations against my credit card that, again, took a bit of time to clear out. I sent detailed and what I believe was thoughtful feedback to the hotel via email nearly a week ago...and am presently enjoying the sound of crickets. Part of our issue with this property was of our own doing with the booking modification, but I contend ANY room or suite in this hotel should be of high quality, and I just didn't get that sensation from our particular accommodation. And with a few exceptions, we weren't made to feel particularly welcome or pampered. I consider this a poor value and a bit of a blemish on an otherwise beautiful stay in Charleston. I am certain there are better options for the money, which we will seek out next time we're in town."
