"Absolutely recommend Art House Cafe. Home cooking at its BEST. I had the fried Catfish, smoked cabbage and green beans. Absolutely enjoyed it all. Friendly inviting atmosphere. We saw many repeat customers. The owner comes out and speaks to everyone when he has a moment. Try it out and tell them Dr. Michele sent you."

"This place came highly recommended. We went to check it out on a Sunday and the expectations were pretty high. You place your order first and then you find a seat if one is available to dine in. Dining is limited and the establishment consist of local black artwork covering the walls there is an upstairs area, but that seating is also limited. The owner was very proud of his establishment and gave us the history of how they came about and who cooks what in the restaurant. The service was great the food unfortunately did not match. I’m all for supporting black owned businesses, but I have to give honest feedback. Starting with the sides, the spaghetti, the cabbage, and the greens all had excessive amounts of sugar in them, which was such a turn off, everything taste the same it was so sweet it created a film in my mouth of sugar. The sweet tea lemonade mix was again full of sugar. You couldn’t taste the lemonade or the tea. It was just sweetness. I do understand certain people like their food like this. I however, am not one of those individuals. The turkey ribs, a.k.a. clavicle bone taste like smoked bologna and the A1 barbecue sauce did not enhance the flavor whatsoever I nor my mother could finish our food the cornbread taste like mush everything overpowered everything there was no distinct taste of broccoli or cheese just mushy wet undercooked cornbread that again was sweet. The only star of the show for this experience was the fried fish. It was cooked to perfection seasoned well surprisingly without sugar. We could not finish our food after a couple of bites so we took it to go and handed it to a homeless person on the way home. I love the concept of this establishment. I love how they incorporate other black businesses and I can tell he is proud of his work. I would love to support in other ways, just not through the food unfortunately, I will not be returning but I pray this establishment continues to improve, evolve, and thrive, it’s a million herbs and spices to utilize, sugar doesn’t have to be one of them and for $70 bucks I do expect to enjoy the food to some extent."

"Tried for the first time while suffering a craving for some soul food. Service was fast and very friendly; I let them order for us since it was a first time experience. All in, we had: Smoked turkey ribs: delicious flavor. Slightly on the drier side, but they provide sauce just for that. Greens: delicious, 10/10. Not over salted as can be common, good vinegar/sweet/salt balance. Gouda potatoes: delicious, as well. Similar to a scalloped potato/au gratin, but richer flavor. Cabbage: delicious, 10/10. I’ve never had cabbage quite like it, but it was one of the favorite sides we tried today. Yams: basically dessert, and no complaints there. Good hit of cinnamon, too. Cornbread dressing: flavorful, good gravy, moist and delicious. Reminds me of family recipes, would have eaten more if possible. Broccoli cheese cornbread: never had it before, now it’s my favorite cornbread! Regular cornbread: good, but after having the buffed up version, you will be a convert. Banana pudding: 10/10 REAL banana pudding, not the fake instant mix with wafers and banana tossed in. Would have taken pictures, but once we smelled everything it didn’t have a chance."

"I referred 2 people and they had a terrible experience with the cabbage being too sweet, I personally have never tried the cabbage but who puts sugar in cabbage? They said the broccoli cornbread was old an awful and the turkey ribs tasted like liquid smoke. I have only had the turkey ribs that were good but you can definitely taste the liquid smoke, but I love the Gouda potatoes and have tried the broccoli cornbread myself but wasn’t fun of it because my piece of cornbread was old as well. My suggestion is to not put sugar in the SMOKED cabbage, less liquid smoke on the turkey ribs and cook the cornbread daily for those prices."

"I walked in, was immediately greeted. Was suggested an order, which I followed. He then showed me around the restaurant/event space while I waited on food. I appreciate their commitment to the community, through feeding the homeless, taking care of regulars, and promoting local artists. He also highlighted that they have never had a lower health score than 98, which highlights their care for cleanliness. When the food came out, I was shocked at the portions. I order the recommended: turkey ribs, smoked cabbage, broccoli cheddar cornbread, and fried okra. The BEST turkey I have ever had. The BEST cornbread I have ever had. I could not recommend this place more. Thank you for your hospitality, commitment to the community, and incredible food."
