What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"I absolutely adored this Japanese inspired cafe! It’s located in a great location and it has outdoor seating. Inside is also very cozy and nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly and the menu is small and simple which I liked. My boyfriend ordered chicken karaage with the kale salad and macaroni Fuji salad and I ordered chicken katsu with potatoe salad and Japanese style curry. I also ordered a cappuccino with a blueberry muffin and my boyfriend got a latte with honey butter milk toast. Everything was so delicious and we left feeling satisfied. Overall I would come back here again when I’m back in Austin."
"This place is a rare find because seldom do you find a Japanese-Texan fusion place to have breakfast. Sadly, that is where the fascination ends. The place was clean, and the atmosphere was hipster at its best. The people who took our order at the counter were visibly unhappy to be there and mentally out of it. I ordered the first thing I saw on the breakfast menu, thinking it must be their popular item. My mom, not knowing any better, ordered the same. We each got one of their holiday coffee confections, which was good. A few minutes later, after finding a table that wasn't lightly used, the lady who was behind the counter came with one of our orders and asked my mom and me if we were planning on sharing. She placed the plate on the table. At that moment, I saw a boiled egg still in its shell alone on a small plate, a sad cabbage salad, and a toast. I told her we had ordered two of those. She went to her counter and back to us to confirm what I had already told her. She said it would be right there, as it seemed the cook did not see the whole order. A few minutes later, she came with the same sad plate. I touched the egg and it was fridge-cold, and I had to start working on peeling it. A few minutes into this, I realized I paid an extra $5 for a miso soup that never came. I had to go up to the counter and ask them about it. The cashier confirmed I had ordered the miso soup and that they would bring it to the table—no apologies, just, "Yes, you are right; I'll bring it to you." I was so embarrassed with my mom because I had promised her a place with a different take on breakfast. See the pictures. This was far from what you would expect for a total of 50 dollars. I'll stay home next time instead of wasting my hard-earned money on bad service and cold, sad food. Never again."
"This used to be one of my favorite spots for lunch and coffee but the quality of both has declined in the past year. I recently ordered the chicken katsu plate and was utterly disappointed by what I received: burnt katsu and bland curry. I could not finish it. The potato wedges (not pictured), which are typically my favorite side, were undercooked and lacking their usual crispiness. I had to finish them off in my own air fryer at home. I’ll probably still visit for the occasional basic latte, as I do enjoy the outdoor seating. But that’s all they will be getting from me in the future."
"Sa-Tén is such a great neighborhood coffee spot! The inside is cozy with a creative Japanese-inspired vibe, and there’s also plenty of outdoor seating—perfect for studying, hanging out, or catching up with friends. I ordered a brown sugar latte and it was smooth, balanced, and delicious. The staff was kind and the atmosphere was super welcoming. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to. Keep up the great work, Sa-Tén!"
"This place is great for a relaxing breakfast. I really like the idea of them serving Japanese dishes. Overall, the food was good, but nothing really stood out to us. We tried the Chicken Katsu Plate with white rice and kale salad, and also had the Sriracha Smoked Salmon Toast. The toast was a bit dry for our taste, but the plate was actually pretty good. It’s a nice option if you're looking for something different for breakfast. I also enjoyed their coffee. We had a matcha latte and a rose latte, and both were delicious."
