"I came here looking for kataifi to make Dubai-style chocolate chip cookies. Back when I lived in Chicago, I had easy access to grocery stores that carried Eastern European and Mediterranean ingredients, so I wasn't sure where to find it here. I didn't initially think of Phoenicia because the location I'm familiar with is all the way on the west side. Then my friend who lives at One Park Place said that Phoenicia is literally on the first floor of her building. I visited her and we did some shopping. I was happy to find the dry shredded dough on the second floor. I usually buy the frozen kind and cut it to the length I want, so it was great to see this as an option though more expensive! This location is much smaller than the one on the west side. I also checked out the bakery. It's nice and well-stocked, though I found the cakes to be on the pricey side. I picked up a couple mini 4-inch Christmas log cake for about $13, and it was extremely sweet--almost too sweet for my taste. Overall, the location is very convenient, with free parking, and they offer a solid selection of Mediterranean staples. I didn't try their hummus or baba ganoush this time, but I'd definitely consider it on a future visit."

"In the past, I’ve gone to the Phoenicia location on Westheimer in the Westchase area of Houston, but I was downtown and decided to check this one out. While it offers broad international specialty items, it seems to cater more toward Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and European foods. One of the best things about this downtown location is that they offer free parking. The parking garage entrance is on McKinney Street. Just follow the signs that direct you where to park. Make sure you park in a spot that says Phoenicia customers only and does not say reserved. Once you get out of your car, follow the posted signs that lead you to the grocery store entrance. Inside, the grocery store is two stories tall. The first floor mainly consists of fresh items, including an olive bar, ready-to-eat or warmed prepared foods, and a bakery. Upstairs is where you’ll find frozen items, pickled items, spices, and syrups. I specifically went there to buy kataifi, which is a shredded pastry dough commonly used in desserts. I will say that some of the prices — especially bakery items — are quite expensive. For example, a slice of cake was $13, which is pretty pricey, but I guess that comes with being in downtown Houston. That said, if you’re looking for harder-to-find Middle Eastern or Mediterranean ingredients, this is a great place to shop. The staff were friendly, and free parking downtown is a big plus, so I definitely recommend checking it out."

"Great little Mediterranean grocery store. They have a delicious variety of freshly made meals, snacks l, and deserts! Fresh pizza (definitelyf do not recommend their pizza), hearty meals, wine selection, amd various delicacies. There's probably not a spice out there that they dont carry. Definitely on the high end of pricing otherwise, tho."

"The food is authentic, fresh, and very reasonably priced!!! We had the lamb and chicken lunch special. We had the Dubai chocolate and pistachio baklava with lemon tea for dessert."

"What a beautiful find. We are so lucky to live in place that has an international store like this. They have imported foods preserves, cheese and wine from all over Europe and the Mediterranean. Almost all the bread I bought was still warm to the touch from out of the oven. The grill in the back serves up an impossibly good price shish kebab for a mere 12.95 with rice and two sides. Highly recommend you eat the combo shish kebab plate or pita wrap before you shop because the cart fills fast on a hungry stomach here."
