This wasn’t some slapped-together meal — it was one of those lunches that reminds you how good simple food can be when it’s done right. I ordered a turkey sandwich and it was loaded with meat, super flavorful, and had that perfect balance where every bite tastes just as good as the first. The bread was soft and fresh, the turkey was tender and seasoned perfectly, and everything tasted clean and high quality. You can tell they don’t cut corners with ingredients. On top of that, the side options were spot on. The chips were a perfect grab-and-go pairing, and the cookie was the cherry on top — soft, sweet, and exactly what you want after a great sandwich. It felt like a complete meal, not just something quick to hold you over. What really stood out to me though was the overall experience. The service was friendly, the order was accurate, and everything was packaged neatly. "⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Great Outdoor Sub Shop is such a cool and unique spot! I decided to visit after seeing that they won Best of Richardson—and it absolutely did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the variety on their menu — they offer so many different and creative sandwich options that you don’t usually see at other sub shops. One thing that really stood out to me was their Eat Out Healthy menu, which actually lists the fat and carb counts, and even Weight Watcher points. It’s a thoughtful touch that shows they care about giving people healthier choices while still enjoying a great sandwich. The shop itself has a lot of character and charm. I loved seeing the sign about the “Great Outdoor History,” noting that the very first handmade sign came from their original downtown Dallas location back in 1973. Details like that make the place feel authentic and rooted in tradition. For my meal, I went with The Invention — hickory smoked ham, provolone cheese, cream cheese, and fresh mushrooms, heated on country wheat bread. It was absolutely delicious! No surprise that Esquire Magazine voted it the Best Sandwich in America in 2008. The flavors balanced perfectly, and the cream cheese gave it a unique twist that made it stand out from any other sub I’ve had. Overall, this spot puts a fresh and original spin on the classic sandwich shop. With its award-winning reputation, great food, cool vibe, and sense of history, it’s definitely worth checking out!"

"March 2025 We went through the drive through several times but decided to visit the dine in. This restaurant was newly renovated a few years ago. Product 5/5 Definitely great sub since the meat was slice to order to retain freshness. We enjoyed our selection. The sweet tea was well balance and strong. Dining room cleanliness 3/5 Sadly the trash was over flow and the dinning tables were stinky. Good seating capacity but need to pay attention to cleanliness. Service 4/5 Staff members were engaged but not very efficient and organized. Tea was mixed while we waited. But, they attempted to work together. Great deli regardless and will recommend."

"I have been a customer here for years. The service is always fantastic but today they surprised me. I grabbed a sandwich through the drive through that I requested bacon on. I received my sandwich and begun to drive away. An employee, Auvianna, came running out of the store to stop me because she had forgotten to put the bacon on my sandwich and she wanted to fix it. I had not even checked the sandwich yet. This type of service is unheard of these days. This place is awesome."

"Absolutely my favorite sandwich spot in the area!! If you don’t love it, you’re doing it wrong? We went through the drive thru about 3:30p today, no one ahead of us and one person behind us. I’m not sure how many people were inside, but it did take a few minutes to order. The speaker volume was low so when we were asked to hold we thought we were supposed to order, so we had to repeat our order when it was actually time to order. For those that haven’t loved their order, you need to modify the sandwich to your liking. My go to for the past 20+ years is a #5 (roast beef and cheese) on a croissant with muenster cheese instead of provolone with the works (lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar, oregano) and mayo. Shakes are made with real ice cream - thick and delicious. My husband got the outdoorsman on a croissant, which as a recent sandwich convert, he says makes his tummy happy. So, if those aren’t two ringing endorsements, I don’t know else you’re looking for! They also have the good thick potato chips, Miss Vickie’s? It does take a minute to make your sandwiches, but that’s because they make them with care and the meat is cut fresh and the ingredients are fresh. You pay a bit more for a sandwich but it’s also just a better sandwich. I’m happy to sit in my air conditioned car and wait 10 minutes for a delicious sandwich 🤷🏻‍♀️ You get what you pay for and this is worth every penny! Did I mention we drive from Wylie just for this sandwich? Because we do lol Go get yourself one!"
