from Google"I was in the Sugar House area again today. Stopped into to SoMi after my quick errand at Sugar House Medical Center. Searched pho in the area and this joint popped up. It was less than a half a mile from the medical center. Walking in, the place is clean and modern. I got sat at a small table. I creeped out the menu on the way to the restaurant so I knew what I wanted. My sweet server dropped off my water and I ordered my bowl of SoMi special pho. My bowl of pho was beautiful. You can see the meatballs, fatty brisket and steak of some sort. The broth we very rich in color. And you can smell the aromatics used to make the broth. The broth was very hot and savory. The steak (they serve wagyu so I'm assuming it's wagyu) was tender. I love that kept part of the fat on the brisket. It was tender and rich. You also got a good amount of meatballs too. I did notice that you got a decent amount of noodles but it's on the lesser side than more. I guess it's good I wasn't that hungry cause on a normal day I probably would have left hungry cause of the amount they give you. Their "special" pho is pretty basic. I have gone to other pho joints in the area and their special pho has tendon, tripe and sometimes a rib. It was a good bowl of pho but I wouldn't say it's anything special. It did lack noodles. The broth was savory and the meat was tender. But for a couple bucks cheaper and you get more to your bowl, I would rather head to Chinatown and grab a bowl of pho there. I'm still happy I got to try it out."
"SOMI consistently has good flavor but I never feel like I get what I paid for. Their prices are high and portions are small."
"When I’ve had Somi in the past it was amazing. Not sure what’s happened recently, but it has gone down immensely in quality especially for what they charge. The honey walnut shrimp literally has a drop of the sauce on the entire thing. If you’re charging $40 for this at least put in some effort. Lo mein typically tastes dried out now. Overall not at all worth the money kept trying to give a second chance, but this seems to be the norm now."
"We had a nice quiet lunch at Somi today. My shrimp were delicious but may have sat a bit and were spicy. My daughter and I had the vermicelli salad hers being vegetarian and mine with prawns. She had a coconut water out of a coconut and it tasted refreshing for a hot day. The pho was served steaming hot and with plenty of peppers, basil and sprouts."
"I have to have a review in here somewhere before now cause this is one of my favorite places to come! I love the environment in the service and their wings and avocado spring roll appetizers are often what I order for my entrée. I’m also a big fan of the grilled chicken vermicelli! Check out all the photos! I’m back again having the grilled vermicelli with some hot saki and it is so good and so hitting the spot! And have I mentioned the wonderful service here? Is this is one of the most gracious restaurants in the valley! So much so that we’ve had several birthday parties in the super cute private room!"
