What People Are Saying
from Google"So much better than Amazon! Let me see if I can list l all of the ways: real people to chat with and offer book recommendations, a space to feel at ease of who you are, with book reading groups and other community related activities. On the day I was visiting there was an art market with several local artists. I also noticed a lot of local art and artisans within the store. This book store has a large heart. If you need something you can't find, the owner may be able to order it for you and they offer shipping. I look forward to visiting again! Thank you for existing. Thank you for the community work that you do to make it possible to show up authentically."
"Under the Umbrella Bookstore & Café is a comfortable local bookstore and café that functions well as a casual stop, though it is not a destination-level shop. The space itself is warm and inviting, blending bookstore and café elements in a way that encourages lingering. It works well as a place to browse slowly, read, or enjoy a drink without feeling rushed. The café offerings are modest but solid, complementing the bookstore rather than competing with it. The book selection is broad within its focus and includes a mix of new and used titles. It is important to note that this is an LGBT-focused bookstore, and much of the inventory reflects that identity and mission. For readers specifically seeking LGBT literature, perspectives, and community space, this is a meaningful and intentional strength. For others, particularly those looking for a more general or traditional bookstore experience, the selection may feel narrower and less universally appealing. Organization is clear and browsing is easy, though the overall depth and rarity of the collection do not rise to the level of a serious collector’s bookstore. You are more likely to find approachable, contemporary reads than hidden or obscure literary gems. Service is friendly and personable, and staff interactions contribute positively to the welcoming atmosphere without being intrusive. The emphasis is clearly on creating a safe, inclusive community space rather than a purely transactional retail experience. Overall, this is worth a stop if you are already in the area and especially if you are interested in LGBT literature or enjoy bookstore cafés as social spaces. It is a solid local shop with a specific focus, but not one that justifies going out of your way unless that focus aligns with what you are seeking."
"Absolutely loved this bookstore. Incredible LGBTQ+ representation throughout the space, not just tucked away, and such a warm, welcoming vibe. The coffee shop is cozy and genuinely great. Perfect for hanging out with a book. It feels like a real community space, not just a store. Already planning to come back for Tarot Thursdays. So glad this place exists."
"Love! Great selection of books and a fantastic safe space for LGBTQIA+. Good coffee and teas, a cute space to work, read or meet if needed. Regulars are always welcoming. Staff is always helpful without being overbearing. They have merch, which is reasonably priced like everything else. Definitely recommend!"
"Delightful little queer bookstore, with an excellent café! I always find at least one book of interest when I visit. Their local author section is a treat to browse!"
