What People Are Saying

from Google & Yelp

"Delicious food! Well worth the visit. Service could be a little more special and perhaps a little treat like a canapé, cookie or chocolate at the end. Something to make the experience unique. We drove an hour to have dinner there. Still good but a Relais & Chateau is usually top notch."

"Our party of seven had an unforgettable evening at Edson Hill Tavern. From start to finish, everything was truly outstanding. The appetizers set the tone: the caviar oysters and tuna sticky rice were among the best I’ve ever had—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For my entrée, I ordered the strip steak, which was cooked to absolute perfection. Each bite was tender, flavorful, and exactly how a great steak should be. Beyond the food, the experience was elevated by the exceptional service, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the breathtaking views that made the evening feel even more special. Edson Hill Tavern delivers on every level—cuisine, ambiance, and hospitality. I cannot recommend it enough and will absolutely be returning."

"A Masterclass in Deception. Do Not Be Fooled by the 4.6 Stars My wife and I came here expecting a special dinner based on glowing reviews. What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast. I ordered the roasted chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife’s “Gnudi” was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn’t finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off. The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras. To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag. This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you’d expect at this price point. The 4.6-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us. We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio."

"Easily the best restaurant we have ever been to. This culinarily experience is pure magic. The road to get to the restaurant, walking in the front door, the common area where you can enjoy a drink and games around the fire until your table is ready…..then you sit to eat…..and it gets even better. The food is full of a flavors exploding and combing in your mouth. The staff are all so amazing, they truly make you feel at home. The atmosphere is unmatched, there is an upstairs and downstairs, and I can’t even pick a favorite! Upstairs is a whimsical experience and downstairs is a warm, roaring fire, tavern! We have tried both and I love them both! When we come to Stowe, this is the one place we always so back to! To the Edson Hill staff, you guys knock it out of the park, every single time! I have never had staff, actually take as much time answering our questions, giving us recommendations when we asked, and making us feel completely at home as you did last night. Also they were beyond accommodating with food allergies and have a separate fryer for gluten free. Edson Hill you are our favorite ❤️"

"I grew up in Vermont and when we were planning our vacation this year, my wife found this restaurant after searching and we were not disappointed at all. The drive to the restaurant was so beautiful and scenic. Ruby the host greeted us with a smile and let us know we could enjoy a drink downstairs in the tavern before we got seated even though our table was ready. The tavern was super cozy and warm and our drinks were perfectly made by the bartender. Once seated, our server Anna was very friendly and helped my wife with a wine selection. We ordered the lobster fritters and Holy smokes...they were delicious. Our entrees were the halibut and fried chicken and I cam tell you...the apple and fennel slaw was paired perfectly with the chicken and hot honey glaze. I tried the halibut and it just melted in your mouth. The chef and his team truly outdid themselves with the summer menu. The view was exactly what we were expecting and even though the clouds rolled in with some light rain, it just added to the ambiance of the evening. We chose the peaches and cream dessert not knowing what to expect but the chef delivered! Perfect summer dessert and blew us away. I had such a memorable and wonderful experience with my wife that I got a gift card with Nick at the end to give to my parents as a thank you because I know they'll love the food and atmosphere here. I'd give this place ten stars if I could and we may have to make this a regular thing when we come to visit."
