What People Are Saying
from Google"This is a very small restaurant located in the major street, Central Street, of Woodstock. It’s cozy and somehow laid-back—-a typical Woodstock style. Delicious foods, friendly and warm service. Definitely worth to try. It has only 8 tables, so you’d better make reservation. I really like its small plate of seared scallops!"
"I am a big fan of Mangalitsa pork, when looking for a breeder who can sell me meat I found Matt who told me he also owned a restaurant with the same name. Mangalitsa is the best farm to table restaurant in this area and likely in VT. In addition the staff is super nice and everything feels more like a family meal, e.g. the chefs bringing the food to the table or the owner taking orders and serving drinks. The restaurant is also very small, so that every dish is prepared to order and it feels private and homey. The food is great and the chef has a talent to create surprising but delicious flavor combinations. Our meal was overall on the heavy side, since we ordered meat, meat and meat but you can also make it light depending on the dishes you order and how much food you order. Also note that they are working on a new place for the restaurant that is located on the farm where the porks are bred. The menu changes frequently so we will back soon."
"Mangalitsa is a fantastic little restaurant right in downtown Woodstock, just a short walk from the Woodstock Inn. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is attentive and the food and cocktails are equal parts inventive and delicious. Each member of the small team is passionate about the ingredients and dishes on the menu and the chef himself often brings plates to the table. I have eaten there twice now, the first time I had a wonderful heirloom tomato and burrata salad, a crudo with a fish the chef had specifically brought in that week, and seared scallops with charred vegetables. The second time I had a refreshing salad of cucamelons and tomatoes and then split a new preparation of seared scallops with corn and crispy potatoes and the seared duck breast. At each visit I took recommendations on which cocktails to order and was not disappointed. Everything I have had at Mangalitsa was beautifully balanced with interesting flavors and was downright delicious. The menu changes constantly in response to the season and which special ingredients the chef has on hand. If you want a special meal the next time you are in Woodstock this is absolutely the place to go."
"The chef does a wonderful job with extremely tasty and innovative menus which regularly change. My wife had a superb curry pumpkin soup while I had seared jalapeño crusted albacore tuna to start. Mushroom risotto and a perfectly cooked grilled swordfish. I had a bottle of Eden Cider to start - need to find stockists of that ! With pre dinner drinks, a glass of wine, starters, mains and one dessert it came to $140 for 2. We reserved by email a week prior as we heard it is very popular. Our B&B owners were surprised we got a table."
"Best dining experience we’ve had since moving to the Upper Valley! I only wish we had discovered this hidden gem sooner. We wandered into Mangalitsa spontaneously on a Wednesday night—after losing power at our house and seeking respite from the heat—and were pleasantly surprised by the bustling yet cozy atmosphere. This is a unique and special space with careful attention to detail, a passion for food and drink, and impressive hospitality. We will absolutely be back!"
