"We were excited to try Cafe Hagen in Kirkland. As soon as we walked in, the atmosphere is quite inviting and open. We find it interesting that for a bakery/cafe setup, they don't have a little tag with little explanation of the pastries in the case. We had to guess and eventually we asked the lady behind the counter to help explain. Our bill came to $30 with tip, definitely on the pricy side. With this in mind, we were genuinely thinking they heat up the pastries before they bring it to us. However, the lady came and much to our surprise, both pastries were cold. We thought, what's the point of them grabbing from the case and just put it on a fancy plate for?! They could've just have the plate ready by the case and then hand it over to us immediately. We were disappointed with that, and no we were not offered if we want it to be heated or not (not sure if that's ever an option). The salted caramel latte was good and smooth tasting, but having it on a cold winter day, we prefer it hotter. Just personal preference I guess. Anyways, we may come back for the coffee, but definitely not for the pastries."

★★★

"This café feels warm, cozy, and effortlessly inviting — the kind of place where you want to slow down and actually enjoy your food. Everything we tried tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. The salmon croissant and avocado croissant were flaky, buttery, and so satisfying. The salmon mousse toast was light and flavorful, while the Freya Deluxe and red beets & avocado toast felt balanced and filling. For something sweet, the churro croissant was comforting and crisp, and the Mokka Dome was rich without being overwhelming. The coffee and matcha were just as comforting and well-crafted, pairing perfectly with the food."

"I appreciate the variety of healthy food options, including matcha lattes and lighter menu choices. My first impression was very positive—the interior design is modern, stylish, and gives the place a polished, upscale feel, making it a pleasant spot to sit and relax. Unfortunately, the food itself did not fully meet expectations. The overall quality was average, and I was particularly disappointed with the quiche, as the meat was overcooked and affected both the texture and flavor. While the atmosphere is inviting, I would expect better food quality to match the look and feel of the space."

"⭐️⭐️ (2/5) I was so excited to finally have a new coffee shop open in Kirkland — it’s nice not to have to drive all the way to Bellevue for a good cup! The space itself is absolutely beautiful. The design is really well thought out — from the high and low tables to the cozy outdoor seating. It’s modern, inviting, and definitely adds charm to the area. That said, the experience was pretty disappointing. The prices are extremely high — even for the Eastside. I couldn’t believe I spent $16 on a turkey and bacon croissant, it was good and filling but not that good! and the latte flight I tried was honestly terrible; none of the flavors were enjoyable. What really turned me off, though, was the service. The cashier was unfriendly, and when I asked one of the employees to explain which lattes were which, he deliberately ignored me while I was sitting outside — which felt rude and unprofessional. I was really hoping this would become my daily coffee spot, especially since I walk by every day, but the staff had no warmth or personality at all. Overall, I love the location and atmosphere, but the service and drinks need serious improvement. Hopefully, as they settle in and get feedback, things will get better — because right now, it’s more of a pretty space than a good coffee experience."

★★

"The food is good, but the service was completely unacceptable. The floor inside was extremely dirty (like usually), with a lot of food pieces on it. I was not against keeping my dog on the floor, but the problem was that she could easily eat something from there and get sick due to her health issues. That’s why I politely asked if something could be cleaned or adjusted so I could keep her close and monitor her. I explained everything calmly and respectfully. Instead of trying to help or speaking to me privately, the manager (a woman with light-colored hair, unfortunately I don’t know her name) ignored my explanation and started yelling at me in front of other customers. She went outside and said that that there’s one available place , but it wasn’t. She told me to leave. There were no available seats outside or on the patio. I checked 3 times and my friend twice. (I already ordered food and food was on the table) I came to eat peacefully and ended up sitting across the street with cold food and a ruined mood. This interaction was extremely upsetting. Her attitude toward me felt biased, and it was very hurtful the way she spoke to me. She brought me to tears, and my feelings were deeply hurt. Previously, my partner and I enjoyed coming to Cafe Hagen for breakfast, especially because service animals were allowed. We had never had issues before, and we also saw other customers with dogs without any problems. However, from our very first visit, we felt uncomfortable with the way this same manager treated us. She has consistently been dismissive. One day after this incident, we noticed a “No Dogs” sign on the door. It happened January 17 around 2 pm. I will never return."
