"I hate giving bakeries bad reviews. It is with this in mind that I say: the Blue Heron’s pastries and hot cocoa were the worst I’ve ever tasted. Flavorless seemed to be the theme of the day. The establishment atmosphere definitely had the typical PNW earthy vibe. It seemed clean, with a bit of PNW grungy earthiness. Not bad, just PNW. The counter staff were friendly and nice. I have no complaint on the service or atmosphere. My criticism is, unfortunately, about their product itself. I decided on a blackberry scone, chocolate croissant and a hot cocoa. Flavorless #1. The scone: When I order fruit scones it is with the expectation that there actually be some fruit present in the chosen item. There were approximately 2 “things” that were being passed off as blackberries. They were crispy and dry. The scone itself was also dry, flavorless and downright awful. Terrible crumb texture, no flavor at all and no fruit to be found. Flavorless #2. The chocolate croissant: What can I say? Greasy, dense, hard and flavorless. How does one make a chocolate croissant with no flavor?? I ate a few bites and saved the rest for my husband. He looked at me after a bite of the croissant and said, “what is this?!” Flavorless #3. The hot cocoa: the final disappointment. There was nothing hot about this bland beverage. Luke warm, and absolutely no cocoa hints at all. Again, how does one make a flavorless hot chocolate? Needless to say, everything ended up in the garbage. Maybe the other menu items are better and I just ordered the wrong ones, but I won’t be wasting my money again to find out. Buyer beware."

"This place was such an amazing gem, I truly appreciated finding this place. This was the first time I had ever had a Ruben and by gosh not only was I informed they would be honored to make me my first sandwich but oh boy did they deliver!! "We've had a few breakfasts here, and I've been getting their pastries for over 10 years!I've been eating their soul and turbo cookies for many years and love them both! I didn't like the breakfast sandwich, but my spouse did, and they make a great salad. Overall, very wholesome healthy and tasty flavors/texures, and best of all, not too sweet. Absolutely love the dining atmosphere, very casual, cute, and homie. The patio is very low key, think like inexpensive outdoor furniture, but still comfy and pleasant to be in, and plenty of space/covered areas. Love that they are a coop too! Coop is the way to go 🥰 Update: great lunch! The person serving us was so kind and the chips were a great addition to the whole meal. I got the chicken salad sandwich and my spouse got veggie cheese steak, both memorable!!"

"When I think of what makes Olympia, Olympia, it's places like the Blue Heron Bakery that specialize in vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options along with your standard ham and egg type offerings. They also have a full coffee bar with a nice variety of syrup flavors. I got the Mediterranean scramble and it was good. My partner got the tempeh cheese steak, which was also good. Next time I might try their quiche. It's very casual decor wise with exposed storage shelving intermingled with tables. Gives a hippie artist vibe. There's outdoor seating options for nice days. It was about 15-20 to get hot food made, but there were also items that were just ready made to go. Staff were business like. It took a while to be acknowledged, but we weren't in a hurry. Parking was available. I'd bring kids here, especially if you have a vegetarian."
